The bar chart shown in the above picture illustrates the overall percentage of government spending on roads and transport in four countries (Portugal, Italy, the United Kingdom, and the United States of America) between 1990 and 2005.

In reference to the chart, Portugal constantly spent the highest percentage of government spending on roads and transport during this period, whereas the United Kingdom spent the least share on roads and transport. Italy and the United States of America (USA) showed fluctuation in the overall percentage of government spending on roads and transport.

In 1990, Portugal devoted about 28% of its government budget to roads and transport, while Italy spent about 24% of the government budget on it. By 2005, both countries had experienced a gradual decline in spending on roads and transport to about 20% in Portugal and slightly less to 18% in Italy.

The United Kingdom (UK) had the lowest share of government spending, below 10% in all years, and the spending percentage slightly increased from 1990 to 2005. The United States of America (USA) experienced a progressive growth in government spending on roads and transport, starting at around 12% in 1990 and reaching around 18% in 2005.

In 1990, Portugal spent the most amount of government spending on roads and transport, nearly 27%, which is followed by Italy at about 22%, whereas the United Kingdom (UK) and the United States of America (USA), both comparatively spent less than 15%. By 1995, Portugal’s spending on roads and transport had gradually risen to nearly 30% whereas Italy’s expenditure percentage slightly decreased. The UK and the USA experienced slight increments on expenditure during this time.

Portugal again continued to be ahead from 2000 to 2005 also, however, its expenditure on roads and transport decreased gradually to around 26% in 2005. Italy remained stable enough throughout these years while other countries like the UK and the USA have experienced fluctuations in their expenditure these years.
