Some of the important reasons are further divided into various categories like Quality of study resources, Suitable Degree Courses, Proximity to Parents’ homes, Quality of teaching style, and Good Sporting or Social Activities.

In 1997, the most essential factor for selecting a specific university in the United Kingdom was suitable degree courses, with 35% of the students having considered this factor. This was followed by high-quality study resources, with 21% of the students having considered this factor while taking admissions in the UK’s based university. Other favorable factors like Quality of Teaching Style, Good Sporting Activities, etc. are in very small proportions describing that these factors are less preferred by the students.

By 2007, the priorities had changed for the students. Suitable Degree Courses remained the top important reason (37%), but Proximity to Parents’ Home Homescape much more essential, which increased to 22%. Students also placed greater importance on the High Quality of Teaching (18%) and High Quality of Study Resources (17%). Good Sporting and Social Activities remained less preferred by the students, with 8% of the students having considered this factor.

In contrast, the significance of “Proximity to Parent’s Home” has increased from 10% in 1997 to 22% in 2007. “Suitable Degree Course” has observed a substantial increase, starting from 35% in 1997 to 37% in 2007, whereas “Good Sporting and Social Activities” has seen a drastic decline from 19% in 1997 to 6% in 2007.

Overall, the data shown in the chart specifically highlights a fast shift towards giving main attention on academic and resource-based factors while selecting or considering a university in the United Kingdom.

Other factors which were considered while selecting a university in the United Kingdom like High Quality of Teaching(15%) and Proximity to Paternal Home(10%) were considered less important by the students.

By 2007, the trend for admission and criteria while selecting a university in the United Kingdom had changed.
