In the first graph, total steel demand in the UK considerably decreased from around 200,000 units in 1970 to around 120,000 units by 2000. Similarly, domestic steel production also fell drastically, starting at 150,000 units in 1970 and falling below 100,000 units by 2000.

The second graph in the above picture indicates the steep decline in employment data in the UK Steel Industry. The number of employees fell from around 50,000 in 1970 to around 10,000 by 2000, reflecting the sharp drop in demand for labor over the past few decades.

In short, all the data and statistics in the graphs reflect a continuing contradiction in the UK Steel Industry with low steel demand, low steel production, and declining employment rate along with a change towards greater reliance on imports.
