Topic: Young People are Encouraged to Work or Travel for a Year Between Finishing High School
Model Answer 1
Taking a year off from academic studies and travelling or working is a common sight. Many students have opted for this as they seek a break from the daily routine of studying endlessly. Another reason for the same is the exposure and practical knowledge that students gain by working. It has been a debate whether young people should be encouraged to work or travel for a year between finishing high school. I would like to discuss the advantages and disadvantages of both choices.
To begin with, years of non-stop schooling develops constant pressure on the minds of the young students. Tons of assignments, research work, tests make the students go through extreme stress. Taking a break and travelling or working makes them gain experience which comes in handy when they seek admission in reputed universities. For example, one of my friends who was from Africa, travelled to the USA and her experience helped her in cracking the interview at Yale University. Secondly, they gain practical knowledge in a real-time environment. Whether it is interacting with different kinds of people in various parts of the world through travelling or learning a skill by working for an organisation, both enable the students to push boundaries and come out of their comfort zone, experiencing the real world.
However, there are also some limitations associated with seeking employment opportunities for high school students. Firstly, the world is moving too fast and only highly skilled people are offered a decent job that pays well. High school students might not find a well paying job due to their lack of experience. Sometimes it might happen that while students invest their time and energy into an internship that doesn’t even pay well, they learn nothing new as they might be asked to do just the basic things for the money they are paid.
In conclusion, it can be said that while travelling or working has its merits and demerits, one must keep in mind what exactly they are searching for and value more. If getting work experience is any student’s priority and would add to their skill, he or she must go for it else continuing education without a pause keeps pushing the students in the right direction.

The world is evolving at a rapid pace and so is the meaning of education. Education now does not only mean learning from books and completing degrees. It has broadened to get hands-on experiences. In fact, “learning by doing” has become the word to go by for any learner. For this, many students take a break from education and travel or work to gain experience. In the forthcoming paragraphs, I will elucidate upon this trend and discuss its merits and demerits.
The belief that taking a break from education to either travel or work stems from the demand of modern times where to bag a reputed well-paying job, one has to have some experience. Practical experience is valued over theoretical knowledge.
For example, one of my friends did an internship for a famous organisation but did not have a full-time degree and ended up getting placed in a good company while the one who worked extremely hard and completed a degree couldn’t get an opportunity to work with a big organisation. The primary reason is that work experience is preferred over theoretical knowledge. Secondly, taking a break from education rejuvenates the minds of the individuals when they resume their studies, they can concentrate and enjoy more.
Nevertheless, there are a few constraints that are associated with putting a halt on education and working or travelling. Travelling requires a lot of money which might not be feasible for underprivileged students. Taking money from family to travel is not a wise choice for students. Due to lack of experience, most of the high school pass outs work at meagre wages. It is much better to continue education and bag a full time well paying job after completing studies in such a scenario.
To conclude, while taking a break before pursuing higher studies leaves more options for students to explore their interests, likes, dislikes, continuing education gives them a chance to gain more knowledge and desired skills to get better opportunities.
Model Answer 3
Humans have been known to experiment and lead a better life. For this, some relocate to other nations, others work double shifts to earn more. Similarly, teenagers have fathomed the way to explore themselves more before they take up their dream job. They do this by either travelling or doing a part-time job. In this essay, I am going to discuss this shift from completing an education without a break to travelling or working before finishing education and will highlight the merit and demerit of both.
One of the advantages of working between finishing high school education is that students can earn some money. This helps them to finance their education, if not completely then partially. When students learn how much effort it takes to earn little money, they will learn the value of it too thereby preventing them from being spendthrift. Secondly, the same money can be used by them to travel. Many students have dreams to travel to different parts of the world, gaining some financial independence will make them travel freely without taking financial aid from their families. For example, one of my friends who was from Delhi, India wanted to travel to Sri Lanks as he loved their culture and tradition. He took a break from education, worked, earned and flew to the country.
That being said, pausing education to pursue work can be daunting. While education requires working on assignments, working requires performing long hours of shifts with just a lunch break. This can be exhausting for students as they are not used to that ambience. Many times it also takes a toll on the health of young adults as they work hard at a lesser salary.
To conclude, while taking a break from education and working enables students to gain some financial independence, it can also affect their health adversely. No matter which option people choose, they must keep their health before anything else and make the choice accordingly.
