Young People have Different Ideas and Attitudes Than Their Parents and Grandparents IELTS Writing Task 2

They actually do not wear culturally appropriate dress or adhere to customs and traditions. Thus, in contrast to their parents and grandparents, who use their native tongue, the majority of young people today acquire English as their primary language. The youth are therefore not representative of their own culture. For instance, young people rarely observe traditions or dress in traditional attire on Awrudu Day in Sri Lanka. It is one of the most important national holidays in the nation, and in the past, older people faithfully adhered to its traditions and rituals. Additionally, the original languages and culture are negatively impacted by this potential. In truth, it happens when young people don't care about preserving their own history. Because fewer people are learning, the cultural value is gradually declining, and the mother tongue is in danger of dying out. As a result, the distinctiveness and dignity that are brought about by culture and history are being diminished. As an illustration, a poll conducted in Sri Lanka found that most young people do not read Sinhala literature. And are therefore not familiar with how the language should be used correctly. Finally, young people show less concern for maintaining their own culture, traditions, and native dialect. Unlike their parents and grandparents, who worked tirelessly to save them. This potential is bad since it might make these ideals more prevalent or even cause them to vanish from society altogether.

The generational divide may be to blame for the bad trend. Seniors living at home have mentalities that are a result of their upbringing and past experiences. To put it another way, they lack knowledge of the most recent trends and ways of life that people in our day and age lead. As a result, this might significantly alter how teenagers and others near them think. To exemplify, because of the expanding socialism and the modern tech-savvy society, my parents and I used to dispute frequently in our close-knit family. Could this grim scenario have any unfavourable effects? Absolutely, yeah. In light of this, various disagreements may result from the misalignment of ideas. In other words, youth may suffer if young people and their guardians are not on the same page. They can begin to think, for instance, that their family will never comprehend them in any circumstance. They become frustrated and develop various mental illnesses as a result of having to compete against their rivals alone in this fictional society. For instance, a recent poll found that 70% of young children have mental illnesses. Due to their inability to cope with the differences between their parents and grandparents, they develop significant health issues that last a lifetime. After exploring both responses in detail, I conclude that there is a generational divide and a mentality difference among close relatives.

For instance, the elderly of the former era place such a high value on marriage that they consider it to be a commitment for life. Contrarily, young people in the twenty-first century do not value marriage. It is shown in the high prevalence of divorce among young people in recent years. The older generation also practises healthy eating and physical activity like hiking to maintain a fit body. Teenagers in this generation, however, reject sedentary lives and believe in consuming junk food. For instance, it is being stated that in Nigeria, the youth's poor eating habits and lack of exercise have led to the occurrence of diseases. Such as diabetes and cancer that were previously unknown to this setting. The decline in years of life expectancy is one of the immediate drawbacks of the generational gap. For instance, WHO reported that the average life expectancy in Nigeria has decreased from 85 to 75 years, preventing young people from reaching elderly adults. The significance of the peer group in society makes this a serious reason for concern. The threat also has the potential to cause culture and history to perish. For instance, the elder citizens of the nation are in charge of passing on the cultural values of their clans to the young ones. As a result, if there are shortages in these old age groups, the culture and morals of society may be lost. Finally, age bias has a significant impact on one's way of life. Differences in goals and objectives amongst social peer groups can be partly attributable to it.
