Band 7 IELTS Essay

In the contemporary fandom trends, young people often tend to center their attention on sports personalities. While participating in fandoms has been a characteristic of young people since time immemorial, sports personalities often do more harm than good among youngsters.

Sports stars often set unrealistic expectations on the part of young people. In other words, while imitating their favorite sports stars, young people often end up hurting themselves both physically and emotionally. Usually, sportspersons are professional and undergo years of training which is not available to most young persons, and they can be hurt while copying sports acts. Additionally, they also emotionally harm themselves when they cannot live up to their expectations of performing a particular action. Therefore, being fans of sports stars and imitating them is damaging for adolescents.

Youngsters who want to join sports often end up liking it for other reasons. They look towards sports as a certain kind of platform for elevation to the status of widespread fame. For example, many teenagers start taking up sports lessons looking forward to extreme unrealistic ambitions and try to achieve them in the short run. Thus, whenever these teenagers inevitably fail to achieve stardom, they question their abilities and suffer from a lack of self-confidence. If this is not kept under check, then this can lead to the epidemic of demotivated young demographic. Sports fandom must be minimized if teenagers are saved from self-pity and self-hate, and this responsibility lies with the sports superstars and civil society.

In conclusion, sports celebrities often become the center of attention for kids and teenagers nowadays. On the one hand, following the lives of sports celebrities is harmful to kids' emotional and physical health. On the other hand, chasing fandom only leads to demotivation. Therefore, it is in the best interest of the young population that even if they follow sports idols, they should do it with caution and concern.

Band 6 IELTS Essay

Most often, teenagers follow sportspersons and make them their idols. Many are of the opinion that such idolisation of sportspersons ends up harming teenagers. However, I am afraid I have to disagree with this line of thinking since sports stars often show the right attitude that one should have in life.

Firstly, sportspersons have the attitude of not giving up and moving on despite the presence of many adversaries. In other words, athletes and other sports persons work hard; they suffer injuries but always keep moving forward. The most prominent example of such a situation is life itself since life has setbacks. However, that doesn't mean that one should give up; instead, one should strive to be the best version. This is what is shown by most sports stars, and that is how they become stars. Therefore, teenagers can get the most powerful life lesson out of fans following their favorite sports idols.

Secondly, sports stars make certain sports popular, which opens potential career choices for many teenagers who feel themselves at a crossroads in their lives. Many teenagers end up choosing traditional careers and end up frustrated. However, sports open up a whole new world if done in the right way. Thus, following sports celebrities opens a window into the vast array of opportunities outside traditional career choices. Moreover, with the advent of social media, sports stars are much more connected to their fanbase and share essential insights if they want to have a sports career. Therefore, fan following for young people leads to better career choices.

In conclusion, people think that following sports stars lead to young people's negative development. However, they often don't consider that celebrities in the sporting world are outstanding life lessons when it comes to not giving up. Furthermore, they guide those young persons who often don't have enough alternative career support and open up vast new opportunities for them. Therefore, following sportspersons and making them one's idols is very beneficial for a successful life.

Band 7.5 IELTS Essay

Nowadays, young teenagers and kids follow sports celebrities, and many think that is not a very good thing keeping in mind the negative impacts of such practices. While it is true that not every sports celebrity can lead by good examples, it is also very accurate that some of the figures are the epitome of empowerment.

On the one hand, when it comes to female athletes, they act as the empowerment figures for young girls and women in remote towns and cities. In other words, girls and women are always made to believe that they are born to fit traditional gender roles. However, such expectations from girls and women are shattered when female athletes take the centre stage. Thus, by following such developments, many women and girls join sports and end up becoming successful themselves while at the same time breaking years of patriarchal conditioning.

On the other hand, sports have a high degree of a problem when it comes to the dominance of a high degree of toxic masculinity in and among its sphere of influence. Usually, sports are associated with aggressiveness, violence, and mercilessness leading up to an unhealthy obsession with competitiveness. Thus, when young kids and teenagers follow a particular sports star, they also follow their activities and tend to be socialized in the way of their idols. Without proper parental oversight, if these young people are exposed to such a culture of violence for a long time, they become perpetrators of violence.

In conclusion, some sports start especially female athletes and sports persons often become the idol of breaking patriarchal stereotypes. Especially, young girls and women who follow them find a level of satisfaction knowing that anything is possible and patriarchal shackles are not permanent. However, certain types of sports and sportspersons often legitimize violent and aggressive behavior which socialize kids and teenagers in the worst way, as they internalize those types of behavior. Therefore, when the right kind of exposure is given to kids, they tend to develop well and prosperously.
