Write a Letter to Your Friend Explaining Why You Will Not be Able to Meet Them IELTS General Writing Task 1 is a letter writing topic. Candidates are to write in an informal tone and in an apologetic manner. It contains three model answers that have three paragraphs namely the introduction, body, and conclusion. The letter must be clear and to the point.

Dear Vinay,

What's up? I hope everything is going well for you and your family.

I'm writing to let you know that, contrary to our original plans, I will not be able to attend the badminton match next week. I realise that we had scheduled this meeting around my availability, and I sincerely apologise for calling off the meeting at the last minute.

On Monday, my employer is sending me to Delhi for a little training; I'll return in three weeks. Due to my performance, my manager chose me to attend the training. He also told me that this training would be highly important for my upcoming promotion.

Nevertheless, I propose that we get together next weekend once I return from Delhi. You are cordially invited to a dinner party at my house. Due to the fact that I will be cooking this supper, it will be unique. I know what you like the most and thus, I’ll prepare the same menu. Also, I’d make sure that we go on a small road trip as we have all been occupied with our life and work these days. Please let me know when you're free.

Dear Rishu,

I'm sorry to say I won't be able to join you for our much anticipated gathering the following week. My heartfelt apologies for having to postpone it, and I'm letting you know now that everything was decided upon with reference to the gathering. I'm quite sorry to have to postpone it since I was really looking forward to it.

As you are aware, I was planning to take the following Friday off for our gathering. But my supervisor has just informed me that there will be a crucial business meeting that day. We will be travelling out of town for the meeting since it is crucial that I attend. When I heard that the meeting would need us to drive outside of town. I first believed that if it were being conducted at our office, I would be able to catch up with you that day. As a result, I was unable to attend our meeting.

I have a fantastic idea for our rescheduled gathering, so there's no need to be sorry about our cancelled get-together. In one week, there will be an end-of-season sale in all markets and malls, according to a friend of mine. So rather than meeting at your home or mine, we may get together and pick up where we left off at a mall close by. Additionally, we may watch a movie afterward.

Please let me know what you think of my plan. I'll make it up to you for cancelling this one, I swear. I sincerely apologise. I'm really excited to see you soon.

We haven't spoken since our college days, so you can imagine how pleased I was to finally meet you. My wife and I were actually going to come with you, and I would have delighted to introduce her to your family. However, we must attend the function because of an urgent customer meeting.

Since I only started the idea to meet after a long time, I am the one ruining it now, and I am truly feeling awful about it. I really apologise for not being able to spend as much time with you in person as was planned.

However, there will be some good news this weekend because it is my birthday.

I have prepared a small celebration at my home with my family and a few close friends. Please feel free to accompany us.

I am really sorry for not seeing you this weekend and hope you'll be at my house on my birthday to celebrate.
