Which is better in Hyderabad, IDP IELTS or BC IELTS?

It is a common question these days in the city of Hyderabad ‘Where should I take the IELTS test, IDP or the British Council? Actually it makes no difference. Both centres have exactly the same test and the grading is standardised (i.e. the same) across the world hence choose according to your convenience.

For Instance, If you went to appear for the IELTS one Saturday in Hyderabad at IDP and your friend went to the British Council on the same day, the test would be identical (except the speaking questions as the examiner chooses the questions).

Common Misconceptions about IDP and British Council

A lot of people strongly believe that the IELTS exam system is widely different in IDP than in the British Council.

For instance, they wonder:

  • IDP is more lenient in marking.
  • The people who mark your exam papers are different.
  • You need to register with IDP only if you are planning to go to Australia; while the British Council is for the U.K and U.S.

The truth is both the IDP and British Council, along with Cambridge English Language Assessment own IELTS. Cambridge English Language Assessment compiles the test and the IDP and British Council conduct it.

IDP is no more lenient in marking than the British Council as they follow the same marking system.

Few Candidates who appeared for IELTS shared their Experience:

One candidate was asked which is the better between IELTS IDP and BC, he answered that the IDP exam methodology is quite better and tough as compared to BC.

He appeared 2 times from IDP in Hyderabad, and talked about IDP ,a particular listening section is difficult because it contains Australian slang which is different as compared to British English and other sections remain the same.

He suggests that if your english is good you can go for both sides. no need to fear and argue about this thing.

Another candidate talked about his experience with the IELTS exam.

He appeared for IELTS 3 times at Hyderabad.

1st attempt: wrote in 2016 (British council) which got expired though

2nd attempt: 2019 (British council)

3rd attempt: 2019 (again British council)

As you can see he gave the test 3 times due to various reasons. But he did not face any issue with british council.

Staff and examiners (speaking) were great!!

The 3rd candidate shared that according to him BC is better than IDP for BC is quite fair in its practices and won’t give you a bad score just because they want you to reappear or want you to fill the revaluation form.

Also, he has 10 years of experience, and observed that whosoever took the test through BC found it fair and square, unlike IDP.

And he gave IELTS through BC, there was no mess, no confusion and it went smooth.
