The graphs show how much seafood was imported into the United States between 1986 and 2016. The pie chart shows a projection for 2026. They also show which countries the seafood came from in 2016.
Over the course of twenty years, seafood imports increased by a factor of three. However, it is anticipated that import volumes will decrease in the future. In addition, China exported the most seafood to the United States in 2016.
The bar graph depicts an increase in US seafood imports from approximately $6 billion in 1986 to over $10 billion in 1996. That amount doubled over the next two decades, reaching exactly $20 billion in 2016. It is anticipated that the trend will change, and that the United States will receive approximately $2 billion less seafood products from overseas in 2026 than it did in 2016.
Looking at the pie chart of US seafood imports, China, Thailand, and Canada dominated the market in 2016 with exports of 28%, 23%, and 16%, respectively. We can see a huge increase in the import of seafood. The number started from 6 billion dollars in 1986 and increased to almost 11 billion dollars in 1996. In the next decade, itr increased from 11 billion dollars to 20 billion dollars in 2016. In the last 10 years the amount of imports doubled. However, talking about the predictions, the graph shows a decline. In 2026, the estimate shows that import of seafood will cross 15 billion dollars but will stay under 20 billion dollars. It will stay near 17 to 18 billion US dollars.
Now, if we look at the country from which the seafoods are imported, we see that China is the highest contributing to 28% of the total imports. Next comes Thailand which helps US import 23% of the seafood. The list of countries include Vietnam and Indonesia also. US imports 11% and 8% from Indonesia and Vietnam respectively. So Asian countries contribute to 60% of the seafood imports. The rest of the countries are Canada which contributes 16% and Equador which contributes 8% of the total imports. The remaining 6% are imported from Other countries.
