Topic: Some think that governments should tax unhealthy foods to encourage people to eat healthier. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Band 8 IELTS Essay

Some people assume that heavy-handed governmental taxation is the mere solution to promote healthier eating habits among the people. But in my opinion, while this makes rational sense, but its actual effectiveness is doubtful.

Those that argue in favor of these taxes can point to a logical chain of suppositions. Though taxes on unhealthy foods are less, there is the occasional mandated price increase for sugary drinks and fast food, smoking is an instructive corollary. Many ages post research indicates that smoking causes cancer, and the governments were able to push through legislation to impose heavy taxes on cigarettes. The results were that those who were already addicted to smoking keeps on smoking while many people did not pick up the smoking habit. Proponents argue this would be the case when it to food items as that cause cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and cancer. Many people will still eat them instead of their higher prices but the next generation would become more health-conscious and would promote healthy eating habits among their children.

Though the above argument is well reasoned, people will anyhow purchase luxuries. There is strong proof for this dating back centuries. Post the war of independence from Britain, the newly created United States instituted direly imposed taxes on luxuries like whiskey, etc. The main idea of imposing taxes was to raise money, rather than lower the consumption of these kinds of products. The unpopular acts were internally vindicated when people continued purchasing luxuries along with the same growth trend, which significantly increases the country’s budget. Even though cutting down on purely agreeable products makes disinterested sense, people are more swayed by instant satisfaction rather than cold calculations.

In conclusion, imposing taxes on unhealthy items is not an effective way against their consumption. Instead, governments must invest more in healthy options and make healthy products more widely available as it will attack the problem at its root source.

Band 9 IELTS Essay

People believe that the contemporary culture of taking unhealthy food to save time must be stopped. Government should put heavy taxation on the consumption of unhealthy food. In my opinion, the taxation on unhealthy food is not beneficial. There is a common belief that the effective method of touring people from consuming a large amount of junk food can be done only by taxation. Where is the supporter might argue that it has built a lifestyle. For example, there are many people who are in favor of this.

Fast food has become more convenient and portable. Despite the profound nutritional knowledge, and awareness People Bhai junk food. This saves time. The government could impose a high taxation scheme on junk food. By raising fast-food prices such as strict legal action: DL immediate and widespread effects on consumption. But I would strongly believe that the knowledge about junk food overconsumption must be invited. The awareness would stop people from eating unhealthy food where is taxation might not make the people happy about this. Refraining people from intake of unhealthy food might also bring Dean the downfall of the national income. The behavior of children and adolescents toward junk food has made a change in their lifestyle. Even working people rely upon junk food as it saves time in making and eating. Hence in my opinion imposing a tax on health and healthy iTunes is not effective. Instead, the government must invest more in healthy products to bring a change in the lifestyle of people.

Band 7 IELTS Essay

People believe that heavy taxation by the government is the only way to control unhealthy food consumption. In my opinion, this is rational thinking whose effectiveness is questionable. People are in favor of taxes to put chains on certain things.

Though taxes on unhealthy food is rare but occasional consumption of unhealthy food is also mandatory. The price hike of sugary drinks, fast food smoking, or a must. Since the kid's research has shown that smoking causes cancer. The government would have pushed smoking under taxation. The result would have already made people quit this habit. But the addicted people would not pick up this habit or continue this habit.. D unhealthy food consumption can be bought down by the conscious nature of people. The trickle-down in the children’s food habits can be replaced by healthy food. The argument is reasonable as people tend to buy luxury. The strong evidence is time is people still intake unhealthy food to save time. The taxation on luxury goods like alcohol and chocolate made consumption less. Similar the taxation on unhealthy food is still questionable. The purpose of the tax is to raise money not to lower consumption.

An unpopular act, like buying luxury goods is a trend. This also helps in the growth of the national budget. Even the cutting of pleasure of products is not disinterested in people. Hence taxation on health and healthy food might not become an effective measure. Instead, the government should invest more in healthy food, providing healthy lunch meals, and healthy products in various schools, NGOs might bring a change of this problem.
