Band 8 IELTS Answer
The table provided above contains data about tourist arrival in 8 countries. The data is for the years 2009 and 2010. The table also shows the percentage increase/decrease in tourism of a country in comparison with previous year.
France received 76 million tourists in both years and recorded no change. Hong Kong received 10 million tourists in 2009 and 9 million in 2010 registering an 11% decline. While France was the only country to record no change, Hong Kong was the country to record a decline. Remaining 6 countries saw a net increase in their tourist arrivals. Germany recorded the highest net increase of 109% wherein it received 10 million tourists in 2009 and 24 million in 2010. Turkey received a lesser number of tourists than Italy in 2009 but it overtook Italy in 2010.
The USA received 66 million tourists in 2009 and 67 million in 2010 amounting to a 1.5% increase. Spain & UK received 55 million tourists each in 2009. In 2010, Spain received 56 million tourists recording a 1.8% increase while the UK received 57 million tourists recording a 3.6% increase. Italy registered a 2.3% increase as it received 44 million tourists in 2009 and 45 million in 2010. Turkey received 22 million tourists in 2009 and 46 million in 2010 – that was a 33% increase. China, with the second highest increase of 55%, received 22 million tourists in 2009 and 24 million in 2010.

The table given above shows information on the figures of tourist arrivals in the year 2009 and 2010. The data is provided with respect to 8 countries. The table also records the increase & decrease in tourist arrivals.
From the point of view of numbers of tourist arrivals, France received the highest number of tourists in 2009 as well as 2010. Hong Kong, on the other hand, received the lowest number of tourists in both years. As far as percentage increase is concerned, Germany recorded 109% increase in tourist arrivals, highest among the listed countries. Hong Kong, once again, is at the bottom of the table as it recorded an 11% decline in tourist arrivals. USA, Spain & UK recorded single digit increase in tourist arrival, the number of tourists also increased by 1 million only. Meanwhile Turkey & China recorded 33% and 55% increase in their tourist arrivals. Tukey overtook Italy in the number of tourists in 2010.
While France was the only country to see no change in its tourist arrivals, Hong Kong was the only country to see a decline. But in 2010, the UK received 57 million tourists while Spain received 56 million tourists. Turkey went from having 32 million tourist arrivals in 2009 to 46 million in 2010. China saw an increase of more than half from 22 million in 2009 to 34 million in 2010.
Germany, which saw the most increase, went from having 10 million tourists in 2009 to 24 million in 2010.

Overall, Germany, from 10 million tourists in 2009 to 24 million in 2010, registered a rise of 109% tourist arrivals. While France saw no changes, Hong Kong was the only country to experience a setback of 11% in the tourist arrivals. USA, Spain, UK & Italy experienced miniscule changes of 1.5%, 1.8%, 3.6%, and 2.3% respectively. Whereas Turkey and China saw a double digit increase in their tourist arrivals standing at 33% and 55% respectively.
France had the most tourist arrivals in 2009 and 2010 standing at 76 million. On the other hand, Hong Kong had the least tourist arrivals in 2009 standing at 10 million which further declined to 9 million in 2010. USA, Spain & UK saw a rise of 1 million tourist arrivals in 2010 as compared to 2009. Whereas Turkey and China registered a bigger rise in tourist arrivals standing at 14 million and 12 million increases respectively.
