Topic: The young today spend a large amount of their leisure time in shopping centers. It is feared that this trend can bring negative influences on the youths and the society. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this view?

Band 7 IELTS Essay

Shopping centres are no longer used only for the purpose of selling various goods, and people no longer visit them to buy and sell goods. But since the development of contemporary shopping centres, the tendency has changed, and many people now spend their leisure time in malls for a variety of reasons.

Despite a few unfavourable outcomes, I think it has many positive effects. This essay makes the case that this trend has made it easier for consumers to socialise while shopping. Let's start with the drawbacks of spending free time in a mall: it leaves individuals drained and compels them to stay indoors rather than engage in outdoor activities.

People that meet up in a park, swimming pool, or playground, for example, engage in group activities that are a great method to engage in a variety of physical exercises. Instead, when people get together with friends at a mall, they either eat fast food or watch a movie, neither of which require any physical activity. Additionally, those individuals typically steer clear of outside activities because they value inside air conditioning more. But contemporary shopping centres have greatly improved our ability to shop. The products have a cosy environment, excellent security, and are all accessible under one roof. We can purchase anything we require at competitive prices, consume our favourite foods, sample exotic menus, watch movies, play games, and even hit the links.

In these shopping centres, we can find everything we need at competitive prices, enjoy our favourite foods and try new ones, watch movies and play games, and even work out in the gym. Not to add that without contemporary retail malls, meeting friends and family would be a laborious task. Therefore, we may all greatly benefit from this trend. The majority of contemporary cities, particularly those in populated nations, also lack parks, swimming pools, and playgrounds.

In order to avoid spending too much time online, people can meet up at a shopping centre. This helps them stay social. For instance, if a handful of my university buddies get together, we think of a nice shopping centre in our city because it enhances the occasion and the experience. In conclusion, as our expectations, lifestyles, and the accessibility of outdoor facilities have changed significantly, the traditional idea of a shopping center—just for buying and selling products—is no longer valid in current times. Therefore, due to its use, spending leisure time or meeting people in a mall should be welcomed as a trend.

Band 6.5 IELTS Essay

Younger people currently spend more of their spare time in shopping malls, despite the fact that many people believe this has a bad impact on both their neighborhoods and themselves. I absolutely agree since spending a significant amount of time in shopping malls will impact their physical activity and their ability to contribute to society.

To begin with, because the young generation will be spending their leisure time at the store, they may be unable to maintain their physical condition, which means they will not participate in sports such as football or soccer. They will get obese as a result of this, and health problems will increase among them. For example, a recent report in Dawn News on youth stated that 40 percent of them suffer from diseases such as obesity as a result of a lack of physical activity.

Secondly, if they spend more time in malls, they will be unable to participate in human welfare activities, whereas the population requires younger people to serve in places like a volunteer in various community centers. For example, in India, young people must serve the local government for two years before enrolling in higher education, which is compulsory. Younger individuals will gain public experience and learn how to be good members of a civilized community in this manner. Finally, younger people should spend less time at the shopping mall because it will benefit their health and allow them to give more to the country.

Band 6 IELTS Essay

Young people increasingly spend the majority of their spare time in shopping malls, and it is feared that this trend will have a bad impact on the younger generation and society. From my perspective, I fully agree with this viewpoint because spending a significant amount of leisure time in shopping malls might divert students' attention away from academics, resulting in failure to meet their major objectives.

To begin with, young individuals who spend most of their free time at shopping malls may lose sight of their principal goal. This is due to the neglect of other pursuits such as sports and the acquisition of useful skills. Furthermore, these young adults may lose focus on their schoolwork, causing them to fall behind in school and eventually drop out. A child who is preoccupied with shopping, for example, will not have time to study or concentrate on schoolwork.

Furthermore, young people who are financially dependent on others may steal in order to purchase desired products from retailers, bringing harm to society because this behavior could spread to all of the society's younger members, creating an unsafe atmosphere for inhabitants. Furthermore, these groups of young people may have an impact on other youngsters in the society, making it a dangerous place to live rather than a prosperous one. As a result, the community's expansion has been hindered, and its reputation has been tarnished.

To sum up, I believe that young people who spend the majority of their leisure time at shopping malls can have a negative impact on them and society since it can divert their attention away from academics and cause them to steal and engage in other vices.
