Topic: The world is consuming natural resources faster than they can be renewed. Therefore, it is important that products are made to last. Governments should discourage people from constantly buying up-to-date or fashionable products. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Band 8 IELTS Essay

Natural resources are being widely utilised on a global scale. The majority of people are unaware of the reservation. Government should issue a propaganda campaign against extravagant or passion products, though, in order to reduce usage. I wholeheartedly concur with the assertion that governments may play significant roles. It makes perfect sense that natural resources have been driving forward modern progress. Gas, coal, oil, and fossil fuels are the most common natural resources. The majority of the power plants in developing nations are wholly dependent on the oil or gas produced by mines. These patterns are getting worse every day. Over 70% of natural resources are used to produce power, according to the report. The remaining 30% is spent on transportation equipment like cars, trucks, and aeroplanes. Most governments lack sufficient knowledge about how to use renewable energy sources. Natural resources won't be usable in 50 to 70 years, according to a worrying article in the New York Times. Some first-world nations took the issue seriously and invested enormous sums of money to discover a different answer. Moreover, cooperation between the government and the populace is required to avoid exceptional circumstances. Government should increase the tax on fashion items and promote the purchase of goods with lower fuel or gas consumption. The majority of nations have significant taxes on BMW and Porsche vehicles. Governments must take steps to encourage people to use public transportation instead of private vehicles. However, OPEC members need to find other ways to make money outside only exporting their natural resources. Additionally, governments can set up certain campaigns with the goal of increasing participation and teaching people how to create eco-friendly societies. Especially by avoiding fashionable items that deplete our environment's natural resources and increase poverty. To sum up, it is everyone's responsibility to be aware of the negative repercussions of excessive resource use. Therefore, governments should create plans and, if necessary, alter some rules. It is to guarantee the preservation of natural resources. The public is required to abide by the regulations because collective effort will produce the desired results.

Band 8.5 IELTS Essay

Modern technological innovations are causing a spike in the usage of natural resources. Also contributing to resource depletion is the fact that demand for such products is rising. While some contend that preventing people from purchasing items that only last a few years is a workable approach. It is not the ideal answer, in my opinion. Of course, it goes without saying that the government ought to support the creation of durable commodities. People won't need to buy a new model of cell phones every two years, for instance, if they can be designed to last 10 or 15 years. The use of natural resources will be decreased as a result, and the accumulation of e-waste will also be stopped. In order to effectively conserve natural resources, it is clear that emphasising quality and durability is a good strategy. This concept does come with some real-world challenges, though. One such example is that modern consumer goods are designed to be used briefly. This is so that customers will frequently upgrade their products, as desired by manufacturers. Due to this, their business prospers. Consider the situation with the phone industry. Every year, they introduce a new edition that only receives small, mainly aesthetic updates. After that, they actively promote these products, and gullible consumers rush to purchase them. These businesses will fail if a product is used for a decade or more. Therefore, people won't be eager to adopt this concept. Another issue is the high cost of the premium ingredients that are required to make lasting items. The price will increase as a result, making the products unaffordable for the majority of people. To sum up, it is unquestionably a wise idea to design durable items in order to preserve natural resources. The execution of this concept is fraught with a number of practical and business challenges, though. Therefore, I do not think that is realistic.

Band 9 IELTS Essay

Exploration and exploitation of natural resources are currently at an all-time high in the name of individual gain. It is urgent to take preventative action because of the frightening scenario. Despite this, I disagree to some extent with efforts to restrict the use of current products and push manufacturers to create durable goods. By doing this, we jeopardise safety concerns and prevent individuals from taking advantage of current, cutting-edge technologies. Modern products, without a doubt, are made with the most recent technology and safety standards in mind. The performance and security of modern cars, for instance, far exceed those of earlier models. Because a new car contains cutting-edge technology like an airbag, a camera, and internet connectivity, etc. These features increase a car's dependability, longevity, and user-friendliness. Being a member of the contemporary and diversified world also means that one should be furnished with contemporary goods. Especially to make life easier and more comfortable. People will start to discriminate against one another because of strong, long-lasting items. Such things would be out of the reach of those in need because they need enormous resources to develop. Additionally, it will be difficult for young, inexperienced businesses to create the kinds of items that require a lot of money and effort. As a result, unemployment will result because few enterprises will be able to afford high costs. Rich people have a bad habit of frequently changing their cars or other luxuries, thus the government works to make them aware of this. However, it wouldn't be very successful. In the end, the government won't be able to stop wealthy people from doing this. Other options, such as recycling products whenever possible, taxing luxury goods more heavily, etc., may be more beneficial in this sense. In conclusion, I would like to emphasise that the government should develop practical strategies for creating a substitute for natural resources. Instead of advising consumers not to use cutting-edge and contemporary things.
