Topic: The water use in 2000 by six countries in the Middle East.
Band 8 IELTS Answer
The distribution of water consumption in the six Gulf countries, Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, Oman, UAE and Saudi Arabia, is shown in the table for the year 2000. The percentage of water consumption in the three main categories, domestic, agriculture, and industrial, is presented for each country. The data highlights the fact that although there are variations in the water consumption patterns among the countries, agriculture remains the primary category of water utilization in most countries, with the exception of Kuwait and Bahrain.
Saudi Arabia and Oman are the two countries where the largest portion of water is utilized for agriculture, surpassing 80% of the total water consumption. This trend is followed by UAE and Qatar, where the use of water for agriculture is around 60%. On the other hand, Bahrain and Kuwait stand out from the other countries, where domestic use of water is the largest component, accounting for 50% and 62% of the total water consumption respectively.
The utilization of water for industrial purposes is the smallest component among the three categories in all six countries, ranging from 5% to 20%. This trend is more prominent in the four countries where agriculture is the main water consumption category. In Qatar, Oman, UAE and Saudi Arabia, industrial utilization of water is only around 5% of the total water consumption.
In conclusion, the data highlights the fact that agriculture remains the main driver of water consumption in most Gulf countries, with domestic usage being the main component only in Bahrain and Kuwait. The industrial usage of water remains low across all six countries, which can be attributed to the small scale of industrial activities in the region.
Band 6.5 IELTS Answer
The table presents the water consumption distribution in three main categories, domestic, agriculture and industrial, across six Gulf countries: Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, Oman, UAE, and Saudi Arabia. The data shows the percentage of water utilization for each country in the year 2000. Despite variations between countries, agriculture was the main category of water usage in all but Kuwait and Bahrain.
Saudi Arabia and Oman stood out as the two countries where agriculture accounted for the majority of water consumption, exceeding 80%. This was followed by UAE and Qatar, where around 60% of water was used for agriculture. Meanwhile, Bahrain and Kuwait were unique in that the domestic use of water made up the largest group, reaching 50% and 62% respectively.
Industrial usage was the smallest of the three categories, making up roughly between 5-20% of utilization in all six countries. This was particularly notable in the four countries where agriculture was the main category of water usage (Qatar, Oman, UAE, and Saudi Arabia). The industrial utilization of water was just around 5% in these countries.
In conclusion, the table highlights the differing water consumption patterns across the six Gulf countries. While agriculture was the primary water user in most countries, domestic use was the main group in Bahrain and Kuwait. Industrial usage was the smallest contributor to water utilization in all countries, with just 5% in countries where agriculture was the main category.
Band 5.5 IELTS Essay
The graph provides an analysis of the domestic, agriculture and industrial use of water among the Gulf countries in the year 2000. It is evident that Oman and Saudi Arabia have the highest agriculture use of water, while Bahrain and Kuwait have the highest demand for domestic use of water.
When it comes to agriculture use of water, Oman and Saudi Arabia account for over 80% of the total water consumption. This is significantly higher than the second largest group of Qatar and UAE, who consume approximately equal amounts of 60%. Bahrain and Kuwait, on the other hand, consume nearly 40% and 20% respectively, which is significantly lower compared to Oman and Saudi Arabia.
However, the situation is different when it comes to domestic use of water. Both Bahrain and Kuwait require more than 50% of water for this purpose. This figure is nearly double that of the second largest group, Qatar and UAE. It is worth mentioning that most countries in the Gulf region experience low levels of industrial use of water, with the exception of Kuwait who consumes relatively high amounts of 20%.
In conclusion, the graph highlights the different water consumption patterns among the Gulf countries. It is clear that Oman and Saudi Arabia lead in agriculture use of water, while Bahrain and Kuwait are the highest consumers of domestic use of water. The low levels of industrial use of water among most countries in the Gulf region could indicate a focus on conserving water resources for essential domestic and agriculture purposes.
