Topic: The position of women in society has changed markedly in the last twenty years. Many of the problems young people now experience, such as juvenile delinquency, arise from the fact that many married women now work and are not at home to care for their children. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this opinion?

Band 7 IELTS Essay

The opinion that highlights “married women’s careers are a contributing factor to juvenile delinquency” has been a topic of debate since a long time. This opinion can be supported with strong argumentative poits highlighting insights in both aspects of for and against. In accordance with the women’s rights, it is quoted that financial independence is a necessity in order to deal and break with the cycle of oppression. This mindset of individuals has turned out to be beneficial for all the families during the timeof pandemic. It has made these families vulnerable to poverty and several instances can be gathered from the recent pandemic that has turned out as a disaster to some. in my opinion, a child who is born and brought up in a family having such positive mindset is equipped with a better chance of survival and receiving a quality education and good quality of life.

For women, building a career is important and is considered to supplement a family’s income. These can be beneficial while facing challenges associated with rising inflation and crashing market. A mother who is working is ideally more stricter and is able to control their child in a firm manner. Moreover, she can reward her children in means that she wants to without being dependent on others.

A career woman is also important to supplement the family’s income because of the rising inflation and precariousness of market forces. A working mother is able to deal with her child more firmly as she has the power of positive reinforcement i.e., rewards for good behavior which she can buy with the money she earns. Juvenile delinquency is seen as a natural result of absentee parenting, according to those who believe this. They contend that a child is predisposed to spend all of their formative years with their mother because she is the child's only source of nutrition for the first six months and plays a significant role in the child's early socialisation.

Therefore, married women who are preoccupied with their careers are unable to establish a connection with their children, which means the child is left without a sense of accountability for their actions, making it simple for them to fall prey to bad habits and delinquency. Parental neglect is one of the main causes of juvenile crime. A mother has a moral obligation to care for her kid, especially if the father is able to support the family. Women should have full employment rights because it is a human right to work, but it is also important to supervise children's conduct. That is why it is important for both parents to maintain the balance between their personal & professional and share the responsibility of child-rearing.

Band 8 IELTS Essay

It’s been twenty odd years since the beginning of the 21st century and in this period the position of women has seen significant changes. We see the involvement of women in many walks of life and its effects on the economic growth of the country but this involvement of women in careers outside of their homes is being linked to increasing rates of Juvenile delinquency. It is said that children whose mothers are working are more likely to be Juvenile delinquents than someone whose mother stays at home. The following paragraphs explore what could be the reasons for such an argument. First of all, with both parents working, a child is deprived of adult interaction. It needs to learn how to judge right from wrong. All the socialization that a child receives comes from peers his age who in all probability don’t know more than the child himself. Also, the child in a home with absentee parents might be attracted to Juvenile delinquency as a way of seeking the attention of his parents because affection is important for the mental health of any human being and those who grow without it grow up to be apathetic, a trait found in many delinquents.

The mother holds the responsibility of preventing the child from straying because it has traditionally been a standard in society that the father will be the breadwinner of the family while the mother stays home and takes care of everyone. So, Children expect care & affection from their mothers which can be possible if their mother doesn’t stay home and is working long hours. The competition between a married couple to outperform each other regarding who contributes more or who has a more successful career often leads to child neglect and such children who aren’t answerable to anyone take up delinquent activities without the fear of repercussions. With unfettered access to money from a household where both parents work and make up for their lack of presence with money and other kinds of liberties, juvenile delinquency is increasing and the households with working mothers make up the majority of such delinquents. It’s important to be present with the child, especially during their teenage years when they are more likely to commit a crime.

Band 6.5 IELTS Essay

The position of women has been undergoing change since the first women’s rights movement began but it has undergone a sea change in the last two decades as we see the employment of women in places where the first proponents of women’s rights wouldn’t have dreamed. With the increase in the number of women opting for a job that pays instead of homemaking, the argument that children of such mothers turn out to be Juvenile delinquents has also gained traction.

The following paragraphs explore the point of how this opinion is a classic case of false equivalency. In these inflationary times, it’s important for women to work to supplement the household income and give their children a better life. If the sole purpose of parents having to work is to secure a better life for themselves and their children, then by no means they are fostering Juvenile delinquency as their child attends the best of institutions that offer a good environment. And Juvenile delinquency is an indirect result of child neglect which both parents can be accused of because child-rearing isn’t the sole responsibility of the mother, father must share the burdens.

The times have changed, the parents are investing in the education of their girls which would be in vain if their daughter didn’t take up a job to support them later in life. Similarly, it is equally futile for a mother to leave her job just because of childbirth as most jobs offer maternity leave. The lack of financial autonomy among mothers also reduces the agreeability between mother and children because they see her as a dependent, this fosters misogyny as well. In my opinion, it is unfair to link juvenile delinquency with working mothers even if there is statistical data that suggests so because the same data attributes Urban slums to be another epicenter of Juvenile delinquency and it is noticed that in such areas a mother is forced to work as the father is often a useless drunk or a daily wage worker unable to find ample work to support the family.
