Band 7.5 IELTS Answer

The chart includes five countries explaining the number of imprisonments between 1930 and 1980. The countries mentioned are Great Britain, Australia, New Zealand, the United States, and Canada. The graph has the details starting from the year 1930 to 1980 and from zero to 140 imprisonments. At first look, the rate of imprisonment in the USA and UK escalated while the number decreased in Canada, Australia, and New Zealand.

Throughout the first few years until 1970, Great Britain had the lowest number. In 1980, the number increased to more than 80 thousand. In contrast, the US had the highest number of criminals throughout the years, except in the first decade. Also, in 1980, the US had the highest number of imprisoners, which accounted for nearly 130000.

The graph of Canada has a declining pattern. It had 120 thousand prisoners in 1930 and gradually decreased to just above 80 thousand in 1980. Australia had a lesser number of prisoners except for 1930 and 1970. Seemingly, New Zealand always stood in the third position, while Canada and the US remained ahead of it.
