Topic: The number of older people is increasing. What are the advantages and disadvantages of this?

Band 8 IELTS Essay

The number of elderly people has increased dramatically. Although many people worry that this may cause problems in their home countries. Others said they are still maintaining their importance to the neighborhood. In this essay, I agree that older people play a significant role in society and have an advantage over younger people when it comes to solving difficulties. Both perspectives will be discussed in this essay.

On the one hand, some people believe that seniors may contribute much to the well-being of a community. They also know how to act in various situations thanks to the years of trying trials in life. Therefore, it is accepted that they have learned how to handle traumatic occurrences. For instance, a recent Cambridge research found that 9% of developed countries discourage their elderly citizens from retiring. Governments do make efforts to incorporate economic activity. Therefore, it stands to reason that the importance of elderly people participating can be significant.

On the other hand, some people think that an aging population causes some intractable problems for nations. This is because they use the country's health care system more frequently than young people. Which causes health care costs to go up and more taxes to be regulated. Despite this, a lot of mature people who have a lot of skills in addition to fantastic information can boost financial activities more than young folks. For instance, a study by Oxford revealed that when comparing government spending on health care across different age groups. It can be inferred that young individuals, on average, visit hospitals 20% more frequently than elderly people.

In conclusion, while opinions may differ, I believe that despite an aging population, older individuals continue to have a positive impact on society. Future generations will place just as much value on the mature population as they do on the young.

Band 6.5 IELTS Essay

The population of older people has grown in recent years all throughout the world. As we become older, we get the majority of experience, which aids in overcoming a variety of challenges. But it also brings with it a number of health issues that require attention and care on a personal level. Elderly people are equated by some with raising additional issues, while others argue that it is always advantageous to have them close by. This essay will provide some insight into both scenarios.

The pace of change in the globe and the rapid development of new technology. Similar to the first instance, we need older folks to help us by offering their life experiences as a shield against our ups and downs. We require both innovative ideas and the assistance of seasoned experts to advance technology. For instance, if we look at all the politicians worldwide, we'll see that older, more seasoned individuals are in charge rather than newcomers.

Life-sustaining devices were created thanks to these ground-breaking innovations. And those nations are experiencing a greater increase in life expectancy than other underdeveloped or developing nations. For instance, we may talk about Japan. Japan is the second-largest economy in the world and boasts cutting-edge technology across all industries. However, in their country, seniors are more equivalent to children. The young people are not interested in engaging in a family life because of their hectic schedules. They want to live a happy life and remain single. Therefore, the birth rate is declining while the number of elderly individuals is rising. They are encouraging immigration proposals as a solution to this.

To sum up, in my opinion, a family or society needs a healthy mix of elderly people and children in order to function smoothly and correctly. With the help of all these different types of people, we may live successfully.

Band 8 IELTS Essay

Many nations today face the issue of an aging population. While it is true that seniors make significant contributions to society. I believe there are more drawbacks to having a big elderly population than benefits.

Seniors can undoubtedly make some contributions to society. Compared to their younger peers, they have surely learned more throughout the years. They may be the greatest people to ask for assistance because they have dealt with practically every circumstance that a person is likely to face in their lifetime. They also have extensive understanding of various life and professional experiences. As a result, the younger generation can trust them to take care of their children with ease. Children typically lack important knowledge and skills in this area.

However, I think that having a large senior population has more drawbacks than benefits. The most unproductive group of workers in a country is its older population. Because they are unable to work and must therefore retire, the majority of them are dependent on their offspring. Additionally, they are more prone to getting several ailments and illnesses after a certain age. Therefore, having access to medical care is crucial and expensive. Nursing facilities are expensive, and taking care of aged, ill individuals is never simple. They are, in other words, seen as being a financial burden on their kids. Despite the positive contributions that the elderly can make to society. There are several drawbacks that could put the government and the entire neighborhood under financial and healthcare strain. The state is forced to shoulder a higher pension debt as more individuals retire. Even if their living conditions improve after a given amount of time working, they are still entitled to social support from their government. Therefore, budget allocation for this part is given more thought in many countries.

Even people who decide to keep working are unable or unwilling to learn new skills and information in order to keep up with technology.

In conclusion, there are many more negative effects of an aging population than positive ones. The aging population does little to improve society economically.
