The number of employees fell substantially throughout the 50-year span, from 477,100 in 1851 to 61,000 in 1901. In comparison, the number of factories expanded from 225 to 600 during the course of 50 years.

Looking at the data more closely, both the number of male and female employees decreased between 1851 and 1901. However, while male employees outnumber female employees by 97,100 in 1851, the gap narrows in the years that follow. Until 1901, the number of both types of employees was almost equal, with male employees slightly outnumbering female employees.

In terms of the number of factories, while there was a rapid growth between 1851 and 1881, with the number rising from 225 to 721, the number fell during the next 20 years, reaching 600 in 1901.

The table below depicts the data for male and female workers, as well as manufacturing units, in England and Wales at 10-year intervals from 1851 to 1901.

Overall, the number of manufacturing workers decreased steadily during the period, with males outnumbering girls in most years. Furthermore, the number of manufacturers in England and Wales fluctuated.

According to the table, there were 477,100 workers in British and Welsh factories in 1851. However, by 1901, this figure had dropped to barely 61,000, with a yearly decline.

Men outnumbered women in every year except 1861, when there were 131,780 men compared to 160,000 women. By 1901, the gender difference had also shrunk significantly (31,000 males and 30,000 women).

Finally, the overall number of factories demonstrated a volatile tendency. In 1851, Britain and Wales had 225 factories. This figure rose to 721 in 1881 before falling to 600 by 1901.

The table graph represented the employee and establishment numbers in England and Wales between 1851 to 1901.

Generally, the onset of the period employed a majority of men and women. Yet, compared to the overall number of employees, factory numbers exhibited instability.

In 1851, merely 225 factories operated with a workforce totaling 477,100 employees. A decade later saw a significant drop in the total number of workers to only 291,780 despite an incremental increase in factory quantity - standing at just over two hundred and twenty-seven. The year that marked substantial changes was 1871: it witnessed nearly half the workforce diminishing; simultaneously--the count of factories surged up dramatically to reach six hundred twenty-two. The factory count reached its pinnacle at 721 after a decade, yet the overall personnel experienced a slight decline to 126,132. Also in 1891, the number of factories initiated its descent; by period's end only 600 factories stood with merely 61.000 employees remaining.
