Band 8 IELTS Essay

Media plays a very important role in sharing people's perceptions within the whole world. Some people want the media industry to focus more on positive news and others believe in straight to the point and want the media to focus more on the reality of the actual world, but nowadays media houses are more focused on TRP ratings for their gain rather than the bring important issues in front. Firstly, the media nowadays manipulates particular news to keep themselves on the safer side.

For example, when posting or reporting about government performance, they mainly focus on the positives and ignore the true reality and hence people are being misled every time. Another example of the media houses avoiding actual news which would help people rather than increasing their Trp is the death of actor XYZ. There was a fire among people for his death and the only reason was the hype created by the media houses. There were several videos by the news showing his body moving after his death even after declaring him dead by the doctors. There were debates and fights among the politicians and actors. The media houses too created pulled this story for more than 1month to increase their top and thus the important news regarding the covid pandemic and other news which would have benefited the normal people were nil. I believe it is very important for the media to report news that would help normal people to sustain themselves. It should create proper awareness among people so that the crisis can be met soon. Thus, to sum up, I would say it’s important for the media houses to focus more on the good news in their publication rather than thinking about their trip. Ultimately, the media represents the voice of the citizens of its country and thus should be accountable to its viewers.

There is an argument that news channels and other media houses focus on covering more stories that report good and positive news. I too agree that good news should be of more quality but also I think there is a need for bad news to continue only when necessary. The editors should focus more on the news which gives a positive impact on the viewers. People with positive mental health are likely to get motivated and work with their full potential.

For example, the news about the decreasing rate of the infection; increase in tests; increase in vaccination will reduce the stress of people and give them hope of the situation getting normal. Moreover, good and positive news inspires people. When we see a big name doing charity and helping people all over the country during a crisis, we as normal human beings also feel inspired and encouraged to do the same. The news of helping people during crises stimulates normal human beings to take meaningful actions. But coming back to reality, there are some instances when good news does not represent the truth and the reality is faked. Unfortunately, such type of mass media and journalism has resulted in distrust from the public. For example, many channels in India report biased news. There are news channels that misguide common people for their political agenda. They make up stories to bring fear among people. In addition, I would also support the media reporting news directly from the field. For example, the covid cases and the limitations of hospital beds have made people aware to take proper safety precautions. In the end, I still believe that the media acts as a connection between reality and us, so it should provide news that is beneficial for normal people.

Band 6 IELTS Essay

In this modern era, media like TV and the internet have taken place for providing information to people worldwide. I agree with the view about the media including more stories of good news. Television media are the only source to provide valuable information to normal people. The people in daily life rely on news channels and papers for getting information. Thus the media should include news that makes a positive impact on the mind of its viewers.

Negative news content has detrimental impacts on the viewer’s especially teenagers who are very much exposed to the outside world. Reports of war and hatred can create a dull view in the minds of the viewers. To begin with, the media is a reflection of our society, so it is their responsibility to report news that reflects current realities. For example, when reporting on a government's performance, the media should cover not only the positives, but also the negatives and areas for improvement. People will be able to make informed decisions during the election this way. I am not opposed to reporting good news, but it should not come at the expense of people's genuine concerns.

Nowadays it is rare to see positive news as the front-page headline. It is very much essential to keep the public informed about some of the good things which are happening in the world. Sadly, there is very little good news to report as the reality is very harsh. Irrespective of all these the media should focus more on the mental health of its viewers and make them aware of everyday happenings and act as a watchdog in the fight against the harsh world. In conclusion, there is a need for more publicity of good and positive news, but it is also necessary for the media to report the actual happenings which are significantly bad to make people take precautions against it.
