Topic: Most of the societies have its homeless people. Some people think that the best way to help them is to give them money. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Band 7 IELTS Essay

Homelessness is the state of having no permanent home or place of residence, and such people are called Homeless people. Although this issue was once almost invisible, it has only increased with passing time. These people exist in almost every single country of the world, but it is quite difficult to measure it with accuracy. The common thing among all homeless people is; poverty.

People usually argue that the Government should give money to the homeless people to help them buy a house of their own. But I strongly condemn this, because this sort of direct financial assistance can make the whole situation even worse. As it would increase the dependency of homeless people on the financial help provided by the government. They too will start queuing up for such benefits rather than working hard for a better future.

If the government really wants to help the homeless people, they can start free skill courses and provide awareness among the homeless people. These can be about learning and also tell how it can help them to secure a better future. It would be a big milestone. By enrolling in such courses, homeless people will be learning things which will help them get decent job opportunities and good salaries. Thus it is better to provide work to the homeless so that they can earn money to build a home. If they will be doing decent jobs, getting bank loans will also become easier for the homeless people. It will eventually help them to earn a house on their own hard-earned money.

Hence, these are the reasons and their possible alternatives in line, through which the government can help homeless people without giving them money. Free training, job assistance and skill upgrade courses are some of the most effective ways to help homeless people to upscale their lifestyle. Further they will live a better life by earning their own money, with which they can even buy their own house.

Band 6.5 IELTS Essay

We have completed 21 years of the 21st century, but the problem of homelessness is still there in countries all over the world. So which are the steps governments need to follow, to help homeless people.

According to a large number of people, the best way which can help these people is the government helping them with money. However, I do not agree with this because in my opinion, giving cash to the homeless people will only make the situation worse.

In a lot of cases, homelessness is a result of laziness. Giving money to such people will only make them dependent as they will look upon it as an easy opportunity of earning money. They will start to depend only upon the free benefits provided by the government. People who are earning money after struggling every single day will assume that this is an easier way of earning. This is due to the financial help provided by the government.

Being homeless also does not reflect well on a society when people sleep on the streets. So, the government can take the initiative of putting homeless people in a community shelter & also give them work. There is also a chance that the homeless people will use the money provided to them on different necessities other than buying a house. Thus it will be much better to give work to the homeless people as per their skills or help them learn skills so that they can earn money by their hard work. Such an initiative was taken by the Telangana government as they gave opportunities of work to homeless people to earn their own money.

In conclusion, I would like to suggest a different approach. Instead of giving financial help or accommodation facilities to the homeless people, the government should work on their skill development. This will help them to become self dependent and earn their own money with which they can buy a house with their self-earned money.

Societies all over the world have homeless people who require help to lead a better lifestyle. Some people think that the best thing to help such people is giving them money. To what extent do you agree on this ? Is this the only way we can help them? What is your opinion about this ?

Band 8 IELTS Essay

We have people all around the world who do not even possess a home to live in and are referred to as "Homeless People". To help this class of people we may have a lot of ways, but in general helping them with money is considered the best option. So should the government really give them money to buy their own house?

In my opinion giving money to the homeless people is not the best step the government can take to improve the lifestyle of homeless people. The reason for the same is that if we give them money they will consider it as the easier way to earn money. Not only this, it is also not sure if they will use that money in buying a house or not. Because they may use that money to buy food, clothes or other necessary things for themselves. Thus the main purpose of making homeless people have their own home may still remain unfulfilled.

Homelessness is not only a sign of poverty but it can also be a result of laziness. Thus giving money to the homeless people can make them even lazier. Since, they will consider homelessness as a way of getting financial assistance from the government. Moreover, they will never start working to earn their own bread and butter. This will make them dependent on such benefits only and they can never come out of the mindset they possess.

Helping such people can be made even more beneficial by giving them jobs or helping them learn skills which can have them getting job opportunities in the near future. This will not only fulfill their need for a home but can also have them lead a better lifestyle and have a secured future.

Concluding this I would only like to say that giving money to homeless people is not the solution to remove them from the large pond of poverty. Instead, they should be given better opportunities and platforms to learn new things and grow themselves.
