THE GLENDOWEN PHOTOGRAPHY CLUB

We are a group of like-minded individuals who have got together to share our passion for photography. The Glendowen Photography Club welcomes new members with any level of experience. Many prospective members start by visiting the club for a meeting or two to help them decide whether they would enjoy participating. All our meetings are open to visitors. We gather twice a month on Monday nights at 7.30 in the Glendowen Community Centre. Applying for membership is easy. Download and print the nomination and lodge it with one of the committee members. Annual fees are currently sixty dollars (or pro rata for half a year if you join after June). Also required is a once-only joining fee of twelve dollars that covers the costs of the joining pack.

The club conducts monthly competitions with six categories open to all members. The rules prescribe a set topic for each month and open entries, where you choose the subject of the pictures, are also invited. We also have separate Monochrome and Altered Reality/Creative sections. An independent judge scores and provides feedback on all entries. Through the club's monthly competitions, a member's work is evaluated alongside that of other members. After each competition entry is assessed, constructive comment is provided on its merits. The standard of members' photographic output is therefore constantly increasing as they learn more, correct faults and strive harder to compete.

Among the club's key objectives is the ongoing education of its members. Our syllabus is designed to extend and challenge members' talents and abilities. Workshops are also held regularly. These cover subjects of interest to members ranging from technical matters to talks on interesting themes. Regular excursions also provide amazing informal learning opportunities. Being an active participant in a vibrant photography club like ours is a certain way of continually expanding your understanding of picture taking and presentation of images. As well as a central committee that helps run the club, we also have separate sub-committees, which help spread the organisational and bureaucratic load. According to our constitution, all the posts on the club's committees have to change regularly and so we're always looking for committed, creative and flexible candidates who want to do their bit for the club.

Our website hosts various forums, which allow members to discuss items of interest from their homes or phones. Inside each forum there can be different categories related to the forum topic, which start with an initial statement or question posted by a user. Other users add replies, extending the conversation. All of our forums are restricted to members only and will not appear unless you are logged in. You must be logged in to create a topic or reply. Report any inappropriate postings to the forum moderator, whose email address can be found on all the forum pages.

Our "Photo News" email list is one of the primary means for keeping club members informed of club activities and events. To subscribe, please send an email request to the email administrator (address found on the website). After verification of your club membership, your email address will be added to the distribution list, and you will receive a welcome message via email. The club does not share member information with 3rd parties, nor will we send out any messages not directly related to club business.
