Band 8 IELTS Essay

Today, we live in a period when the world has truly become a village. Almost everyone, from all walks of life, has had some exposure to media, whether it be through TV, movies, books, magazines, or social media. Unbeknownst to us, we have also been exposed to the many advantages and risks that come with global media. I'll be talking about how I think exposure to international media has affected people in this essay. And all of its risks and advantages.

Access to real-time news should be highlighted first and foremost when discussing the advantages of the growth of foreign media. Everyone in the world has access to the news, regardless of where they are located or what time zone they are in. We are able to learn all the pertinent information about any significant event that has occurred with the aid of digital news media. Whether it be in sports, entertainment, current affairs, economy, or any other area that piques our attention. Another significant advantage of the mixing of various cultures is that it has given local cultures a chance to be seen in a wider context.  It helps to expand our knowledge and our overall understanding of the culture and history of other places. As well as ones that are not otherwise accessible to us.

Nevertheless, we must also keep in mind that every benefit has a corresponding set of drawbacks. While exposure to international media may broaden our understanding of diverse cultures. Additionally, it has frequently happened that local culture is too impacted by global media trends. And as a result of adopting that widespread trend, they frequently lose their distinctive culture and identity. In any case, I concur that there are numerous ways in which local cultures have been influenced by international media.

Band 6.5 IELTS Essay

There are many different forms of media nowadays in every home, such as TV, films, magazines, and so on. They have made it possible for all to get access to international news. It has had a direct influence on the local culture. One can simply not overlook the great benefits that have come with this rapid globalization today, and it includes the following factors:

The exposure of international media to local culture helps to bring people from every nook and corner of the world together. Through the help of international media, people from local cultures or developing countries get to know what is happening in other places of the world. People from local cultures can also use the international media to reach out to the global audience to express the worst problems and ask for help. At the same time, the audience can also express their views and share them with the world. In this way, it has become a great educational opportunity for the people of the local culture. The communication gap between local culture and the rest of the world had contributed greatly to communities being unable to move forward. It has helped local communities to look at their prevailing problems, and work to solve the same.

We can also say that international media works as a watchdog of public interest. For instance, it works as a way to generate awareness amongst the public about the ongoing issues in our community. It can be related to economies or governments of several places. It works as a medium for people to fight against the oppression and injustices being inflicted on the people of the world. For instance, recently it might have been hard for us to know about the ongoing war or the pandemic situation, had it not been for the international media. Thus, to sum it up, the influence of international media on local culture has come with its great share of advantages for the local people.

Band 7 IELTS Essay

Ever since mass media, especially the internet, has become a common commodity available in all households regardless of where you live. The impacts of that media have also become rather prominent. As we discussed above, one can simply not oversee the many great benefits of this exposure to international media. It also has come with its great share of setbacks. We shall be discussing the disadvantages of exposure of local culture to international media like T.V, films, magazines, etc. in this essay.

One of the major setbacks of international media to local culture is that the children of the new generation have got exposed to them very early in life. Nowadays, we can see that rather than going out to play with their friends, kids prefer to sit back and watch a film or TV. This largely hampers their development and mental growth. And this aspect is not only valid for children, but teenagers as well. With the increased exposure to international media, teenagers often face many problems, such as a need to constantly stay in touch with the ongoing trends. They develop certain ideal images that do not fit their body type, and thus they often create body image issues.

As local cultures get more exposure to international media, they often tend to get influenced by their images of a "developed lifestyle". And in the race to pursue that international way of living, the local cultures and customs often get lost. We must try to protect the local cultures with the help of international media, instead of letting them get lost in time and globalization.

Lastly to conclude, the expansion of international media in modern times has both advantages and disadvantages. However, its advantages exceed the disadvantages. Exposure to international media can greatly minimize predisposition across nations and increase cognition of different languages and cultures.
