Text Message - IELTS Speaking Sample Answer
IELTS Speaking section consists of three parts to test the candidate’s speaking proficiency. IELTS speaking has a duration of 11 to 14 minutes. Text Message - IELTS Speaking Sample
- Do you like text messaging?
Answer 1- I do not enjoy texting. It is easier to communicate on a call because it delivers the message smoothly. You are able to gauge the emotions of a person of a phone call. We are often misunderstood over a text. If a message is interpreted wrongly, it causes confusion and unnecessary trouble.
Answer 2- Texting is very convenient. It hardly takes a couple of minutes to send a text. The charges are almost negligible, unlike calls that charge you a dollar or two every minute. My immediate circle of family and friends prefer texting and it is our primary mode of communication.

Answer 1- I prefer receiving messages. It assures me that people do care for me. As simple as a, ‘good morning’ does get my day a lot better. I appreciate those who make an effort to acknowledge us and remind us every day that we are in their thoughts. I know they care especially when they take time out of their busy schedule and send a message. I do the same as well. No matter how busy I get, I ensure to text my loved ones.
Answer 2- This would be a hard choice as it depends on the circumstances. If I have something that absolutely needs to be shared, I immediately initiate a conversation by sending text messages. However, on occasions, I am celebrating my birthday or a milestone, I love receiving warm wishes from my family and friends.

Answer 1- I have received several messages that turned out to be a scam. Furthermore, I receive messages regarding loans or credit cards every single day. They are downright annoying. It is unfortunate that there aren’t many ways to penalize these parties who misuse our phone numbers by selling our data to other parties.
Answer 2- This has happened multiple times. There has been an instance, I received a message from an unknown number that disturbed me. In a state of panic, I tried to call that person and turns out it was a prank that was directed at someone else. I was not amused and reprimanded the person for causing me distress.

- In what circumstances is making a phone call better than sending across a text message?
Answer 1- In case of emergencies, it is best to make a quick phone call and explain the situation. If it is a situation wherein things are quickly taking a turn for the worse, it is best to explain the circumstances on call. This catches the attention of the person immediately.
Answer 2- If a person wants to relay a message to a person but wants to keep it confidential, then the best mode of communication would be a phone call. If sensitive information is sent on a text, it could be read by others.

Answer 1- There are times when it gets difficult to reply on a message. This is especially true in situations when someone wants to borrow either money or something I have. If I am not comfortable, I am unsure of how to respond appropriately. I also struggle to reply politely when someone questions me about my personal life. I do not enjoy responding to them. It puts me in an awkward position.
Answer 2- I have no trouble replying. I in fact enjoy responding on messages. I am more comfortable sending replies on text as I am more welcoming on a text message. I communicate my emotions better on a text than on a call. Texting also helps me improve my writing skills.

Answer 1- If the situation is worsening by the minute and an immediate response is requested, then yes, I would leave a text message. This is done only is dire circumstances when a message needs to be communicated with utmost urgency. It may not always be the best mode as most people don’t look at messages. But if all other means have been exhausted, then of course there is no harm in sending a message.
Answer 2- I always leave a message if the person doesn’t attend the call. It is just to keep them informed that I had tried to reach out to them over a call but they weren’t available. This is done on all situations whether it is urgent or not. This way, it gives the receiver a choice of either responding back on a call or prefers to reply back with a text.
