When and where it was?
It was when I was final year student in my BALLB (Hons.) course in the University. All final year students have to submit a mini dissertation of sorts and the topics are assigned to them via a list pasted on the noticeboard. The year I was to write my dissertation was also the year of COVID Lockdowns. So, the law faculty administration decided that final year students will submit a dissertation on a topic of their own choosing.
What you had to write about?
Because the topic was my own choice, so I chose to write about the internal security challenges of India. When and where it was?
It was when I was interning at Administrative Tribunal. The internship was supposed to last a week but four days in the internships the advocates called for a strike and all the proceedings halted. Our co-ordinator decided that all the interns will use this time to write a report. He believed that this would be the most judicious use of our time.
What you had to write about?
We had to write about our four-day experience at the Administrative Tribunal as an intern. The report was to include what we learnt from sitting with the judges, any cases that we found interesting or anything new we discovered about functioning of the law. The report was to be concluded with our recommendations for better functioning of the tribunal and what role we admired the most within the tribunal.
Explain how you felt about writing a lot?
Since it was an impromptu request and none of us were anticipating writing something comprehensive it was a bit nerve racking. But as soon as I started working on my report my nervousness vanished. I didn’t feel annoyed by writing a lot because I felt like I was putting my thoughts in black and white, and this will add some value to the institution. In the end, I did write a lot and felt like I had done something meaningful.

When and where it was?
It was at an Essay Competition. The annual literature festival at my school was going on and there were several competitions related to writing and speaking. I was looking forward to my debates but one of my friends registered me for the essay competition. They said it would be better for me to write something too. I decided to give this competition a chance, but I was more focused on the debate.
What you had to write about?
When I sat down in the competition the topic was revealed to me. The topic was the same old Science: Curse or Boon? It was an overused essay topic, but the competition placed a word limit of 1500 words on it. I literally had nothing to say in this topic that hadn’t already been said. In the end, I wrote the same old points that everyone else might have written too because it was such a popular topic for essays.
Explain how you felt about writing a lot?
I did not feel good about writing this much. No matter how hard I tried I could not stretch the topic to 1500 words. By the time I exaggerated my points and reached the word limit I was visibly irritated and tired. It was not a good experience for me. Needless to say, I didn’t win either.
