What was the War about?

One of the greatest wars in the history of the world is that of the First World War that took place from July 1914 and ended officially in November 1918. The immediate reason for the beginning of the Great War was the assassination of the Austro-Hungarian’s successor of the throne, Archduke Ferdinand. What was thought to be political conspiracy by Serbia and the need to punish the country in order for the world respecting Austro-Hungary's prestige, led to the instigation of a global war that the world has ever seen. The war which started with a conflict in the European region gradually led to the world war which increased tensions as well as militarism, nationalism, imperialism and alliances grew.

Who fought it?

The emergence of World War I began from the conflicts of the modern world’s most powerful forces including the Austro-Hungarian Empire, Germany and the Ottoman Empire with Britain, France, Russia and later with the support of the United States. 

How did you learn about it? 

I learnt that with World War I, the entire world came to know about the need to develop military resources as a source of national defense as well as protecting the interests of the colonial rulers. Secondly, the significance of World War I also came in terms of forming alliances between different countries who in order to safeguard their interests found mutual interests with others.

What happened in this war?

The two sides of the war were known in the names of Central Powers including Austro-Hungary, Germany, Ottoman Empire and the Allied Powers with Britain, France, Russia and Serbia. The war began with Germany’s strategy in 1914 to defeat France and move to knock out Russia which failed considering the advance against France was halted at Marne. The United States entered the way in 1917 with the German initiation of submarine warfare. Further, in Russia, the Bolsheviks seized power and made peace with Germany while the latter hoped to win against America. However, it was unable to halt the advances of the Allies and Central Powers collapsed by the end of 1918. The war came to the end with the Allied Powers winning and the signing of the Treaty of Versailles in 1919.

After World War I, with several treaties signed and peace made, the world had expected no wars for the future. However, political thinkers had already predicted for another war to take place which eventually did occur from 1939 to 1945. World War II or the Second World War is known as the global warfare among humans that saw the war being waged against two military opponents, the Allies and the Axis powers as they were now known.

Who fought it?

The Allies Power comprised the UK and the British Empire, the THird Republic of France, Soviet Union, UNited States of America and their allies. The Axis Powers include the countries of Nazi germany, Fascist Italy, Empire of Japan and their allies. With Hitler being the leader of the Nazi Germany, leading the war to massive heights. 

How did you learnt about it?

It was a great histiorical event of the same is present in the historical books, academics in school as well as numerous research papers and articles on the same has been published. World War II has certainly been one of the most deadliest wars in the history of World War.

What happened in the War?

The initial winning of the war by Germany and the Axis powers between 1939 and 1941 with conquering the regions of continental Europe and parts of Africa. France was defeated by Germany in 1940 and the British Empire had to fight with its allies against the Axis powers. However, the war turned into a significant event when in 1941, the Soviet Union was invaded which resulted in largest land warfare and the bombarding of Pearl Harbor by the Japanese in 1941 forcing the US to enter the war. With the entry of the US in the war and declaration of war by the Axis powers against the US, the advances of the latter were obstructed where the powers faced defeat under the US Navy. This led to Italy facing defeat in North Africa and the Balkans surrendering to the Allies and Benito Mussolini executed. In 1943, Germany was defeated in the Eastern front and the war was concluded in 1945 with allies invading German controlled territories. The World war II ended with USA dropping the bomb at Hiroshima and Nagasaki thus, inducing its military strength in the world.

What was the War about?

One of the most popular wars in the modern world took place between the United States of America and Soviet Russia. With the end of the Second World War, the modern world saw the emergence of two power blocs, the US and Soviet Russia which fought effectively with their military competencies during World War II. This war between the USA and Russia that took place with diplomatic issues, political and military concerns at point created tensions between the two parties which was handled diplomatically, thus, giving the name Cold War.

Who fought it? 

The war between the USA and Soviet Russia did not involve any military clashes considering that the incidents that took place between them were mainly diplomatic based. While the USA represented a capitalist society, Soviet Russia was the representative of communist society.

How did you learn about it?

The Cold War is known as to have distributed world peace and is found in many academic and historical books along with research papers and journals. The Cold War helped in demarcation of the first world, second world and third world regions in the world, dividing people and society completely.

What happened in the War?

The diplomatic war waged between these two power blocs began when Hitler had invaded Russia and the US had sent troops’ supplies for the same which is assumed as the degradation of the relationship. Further, when Stalin defeated Germany and tried imposing communism, suspicion rose between the western countries and Russia. Further, with the dropping of the Hiroshima and Nagasaki bomb by the USA in Japan with the end of the Second World War made Russia aware of the US’s military powers leading the latter to increase its militarty strengths and thus, intensifying the Cold War. The Cold War helped in understanding the support of the US for having a capitalist society where differences between rich and poor grew and the support of Russia for communism, an ideology shaped in social ownership of property and absence of social classes.
