The table gives details on how many students joined the University of Manchester in three different years: 1937, 1967, and 2017. It is a comparison of the proportion of students who are female and male, students from overseas, and those studying within 40 miles of the city.
Major changes to highlight include the rise of total student numbers from 327 in 1937 up to 6254 by 2017, along with the percentage of local students. In fact, these made up more than half (55%) during the same initial period but as we moved into recent years like in 2017 it is observed that this proportion stands at a mere figure between just one or two percent. It is surprising to see that the percentage of female enrollments did not continuously grow from 1937 to 1967, but instead, it went down.
Still, conversely, from 1937 to 1967 there was barely any change in the percentage of overseas students - it held steady at around 6% and then slightly up to 7%. However, after that period a notable increase occurred. By the year 2017, out of all existing students globally a count of thirty-two were international learners.
