Band 7.5 IELTS Essay
The table in the above image shows the source of money for the police budget. The chart shows how it was spent. Both of these images capture data from the year 2017 to 2018.
The sources from which the money came in were national government, local taxes and other sources like grants. A total of 304.7 million and 318.6 million were accumulated in 2017 and 2018 respectively. National government contributed 175.5 million in 2017. In 2018, it was almost similar and the amount was 177.8 million. Local taxes increased by a good margin in 2018. From 91.2 million in 2017 to 102.3 million in 2018. The money that came from other sources was also similar. In 2017, it was 38 million and in 2018, it was 38.5 million.
If we come to the pie chart which shows the expenses, we can see that most of the money was spent on salaries of office staff. In 2017, 75% of the money was spent on salaries. 17% were spent on buildings and transportation in 2017 which remained the same in 2018 also. However, the amount spent on salaries decreased to 69%. This gap of 6% (75 to 69) was added in technology. So the government trimmed the salary and used that fund to improve the technology. From 8% in 2017 it went to 14% in 2018. Hence, we can see that the government started focussing more on technology.

In both years, the national government contributed the most to the overall increase in the police budget. Salaries remained the primary form of expenditure.
The police had a total budget of £318.6 million in 2018, up from £304.7 million in 2017. From £175.5 million to £177.8 million, the majority of this money came from the national government. Local taxes increased the most out of all funding sources, reaching £102.3 million from £91.2 million in 2017, while other sources contributed £38.5 million—0.5 million more—to the overall budget in 2018.
Officer and staff salaries made up the majority of expenses, but their proportion dropped from 75% to 69%. However, while spending on buildings and transportation remained the same at 17%, spending on technology nearly doubled from 8% to 14%.

The table shows the amount of money that UK police department received from various sources in 2017 and 2018. The chart on the other hand depicts how this money was spent. In general, it is evident that, in both years, the national government contributed the most to the police budget. The second most significant source of revenue was local taxes. The smallest contribution came from grants and other sources. The police budget received 175.5 million pounds from the government in 2017, but in 2018, this figure slightly increased to 177.8 million pounds. Local taxes contributed 91.2 million pounds in 2017 and 102.3 million pounds in 2018. In both years, the contribution from other sources remained approximately the same at 38 million pounds. Salaries consumed a significant portion of the budget in both years. In comparison to 2017, when salaries accounted for 75% of the budget, this percentage dropped to 69% in 2018. In both years, the percentage of money spent on buildings and transportation remained the same at 17%. In contrast, technology spending increased from 8% in 2017 to 14% in 2018.
