Supermarket - IELTS Speaking Sample Answer

Question 1: Do you go to street markets?

Answer: Yes, I do. Visiting street markets, particularly flea markets, is my cup of tea. I never miss an opportunity to see if there are any collector's items available for purchase. I enjoy the overall experience of seeing individuals offer their products or services, and I believe that the freshest stuff is sold there. I would rather shop at a street market than a major supermarket where the produce is treated with pesticides and other chemicals to keep it from degrading.

Question 2: Why do you think people go to street markets?

Answer: I suppose that some people desire to acquire some reasonably priced items that they can't get in department stores or shops due to the high prices. The majority of things sold in street markets are significantly less expensive than those sold in department stores. Some people also take advantage of the opportunity to bargain because it is always feasible to do so in street markets and they can save a lot of money this way. Some people prefer to consume fresh foods that have not been treated with chemicals in order to keep them fresh for longer durations.

I recall having a memorable encounter in one of the street markets in Chiang Mai, Thailand, where I was able to purchase some reasonably priced souvenirs and T-shirts, and the saleswoman was really kind, even teaching me some practical Thai expressions. They sell a variety of retail items as well as their own products and crops. A supermarket, on the other hand, is a single corporation that sells a wide range of products. Their products are undeniably more expensive than those found at street markets. Street markets offer fresher products and typically feature locals or farmers selling their goods, whereas supermarkets offer more commercialised items.

• Commercialised goods are goods that are sold at higher rates for generating huge revenue and profits.
