Band 8 IELTS Essay

An advertisement is the visual or nonvisual promotion of a product, brand, service, or any other attraction that needs the attention of common men. This is usually done for viewership and to attract interest, engagement, and sales. Companies usually provide advertisements in the form of radio ads, posters, banners, and TV commercials. These tend to increase the sales and profitability of the company. In this topic, we will discuss if advertisements have a positive or negative impact on society.

Nowadays, everyone watches TV where most of the advertisements are posted. There are ads that might have a long-lasting and positive impact on the viewers. There are also a few advertisements that might impact the viewers negatively. Advertisements that are beneficial for society must have meaning and morale and be simple yet attractive and eye-catchy. These types of advertisements must be understandable to all people irrespective of their age, gender, caste, or religion. There are advertisements that can teach something like working hard to get success, helping others, taking care of society, etc. This leaves a positive impact with some morale in the minds of the readers. The advertisements must take into consideration the sentimental point of view of people and must be based on real-life situations of the community portraying an ongoing issue in society. The advertisements should try to reach the maximum number of people creating a common sentiment amongst mass people about the issue. This will eventually get solved which would be beneficial for society. Promotions and advertisements are beneficial for society as they could promote social harmony and could motivate the new generation to do something good for society. For example, a kid may become sympathetic seeing a showcasing of donations to unfortunate or feeding beggars. This may develop a deep feeling of sympathy in the kind and he might also be eager to donate. These types of advertisements are good for society.

There are a few negative impacts of advertisements conveyed to society. We often see unrealistic stories in advertisements. The things that are not possible in real life. For example, a renowned soft drink company shows a story of jumping on fire, jumping from high buildings, and other stunts after drinking the soft drink. This is very misleading and dangerous to the younger generations. Another classic example is a soft drink company that gave an advertisement to collect points by buying soft drinks. They also had few lucky numbers. They will provide gifts for these points. The maximum was 7 million points for which a jet would be gifted. This advertisement brought riots when the company was unable to provide those gifts.

I believe that advertisements have both positive and negative impacts on society. It totally depends on the content of the advertisements. The content must not create a negative impact or bring harm to society. Instead, advertisements that are meaningful, purposive, that promote social equality, and harmony must be given stress so that it encourages and motivates the younger generation.

Band 7 IELTS Essay

Advertisements, nowadays have become an integral part of people's lives and communities be it television advertisements, posters, or hoardings on the road. Big companies use advertisements to market their product and to increase sales by reaching a maximum number of people. The main motive behind advertisements is to reach the maximum number of people so that their products become globally popular and eventually, it will increase their profit.

Advertisements have both positive and negative impacts on society. Most well-established companies take the help of advertisements in order to make their product globally popular and enhance their profits. Advertisements can be made impactful by adopting some strategies. The content of the advertisements must be meaningful, purposive, and should be creative, and entertaining. As people always seek something new and unique. The most popular means of advertising is by hiring famous celebrities to promote their product. As celebrities have huge global recognition and fan following, the product they will showcase or promote will have huge demand from their fans. People adore these celebrities as their role models and try to imitate their lifestyles. As a result, the product or brands endorsed by celebrities will grow in popularity among their fans, and most likely they will buy the product. But some products that are not suitable for society, mainly younger generations, are also showcased. Likes of addiction products like cigarettes, and alcohol consumption, are often showcased by celebrities that can have a serious impact on society in this ever-changing world. The younger generation, mainly the adolescent group, is most affected as they are more impressionable than adults. It is often seen that some kids are highly influenced by some gadgets and kinds of stuff that are showcased by their role models and they pressurize their parents to buy them the product. This compulsive urge leads them into a debt trap and they may opt for some unfair means to attain those urges. Hence, these kinds of advertisements are detrimental to society. To conclude, advertisements though have some negative impacts on society, they have many positive and constructive roles too for society as they are an important and powerful tool to fight against social odds like inequality, gender disparity, child labor, and social injustice.

Band 6.5 IELTS Essay

In the fast-growing economy, advertisements play a vital role in a company's future and long-run success. Big companies enjoy monopoly power in the market by advertising their products by hiring celebrities or popular figures of society.

Advertisements play an important role in the profit-making of the company as well as it has some benefits for society. Big industries manufacture goods in mass production and they tend to make their product readily available to the market. The information about the product is made available to society by these advertisements. As advertisements can reach the maximum number of people in a short span of time, this becomes one of the important strategies for reaching out to people, making their product globally renowned, and ultimately increasing profit share. In most cases, big companies hired renowned persons from society, be it celebrities, cricketers, singers, etc. As they have a huge fan following it is most likely the product will be liked and consumed by their fan base. The big brands endorsed by renowned personalities have a strong impact on the common people and they tend to consume those products that are endorsed by their role models. Ultimately, the main motive of the companies are served, their products become globally accepted and they enjoy huge profit from the products. It must also be mentioned that the advertisements do not always serve the profit motive of the companies, sometimes the advertisements are meaningful, purposive, and are specially made to keep an eye on social issues of the community. Advertisements to promote nationalism, patriotism, social equality, female empowerment, fight against racism, and discrimination is often addressed by companies. But these advertisements often have some negative and harmful effects on the community. As the companies mainly focus on profit maximization, they tend to be very specific and over-emphasize their product. For example, a renowned fruit juice company tried to convince people by claiming that their product only contains vitamin C, which may be confusing for people who did not know the truth. In this competitive world, all big companies often tend to adopt some unfair means just to increase their profit share, which ultimately affects society in the long run. Thus, it can be said although advertisements have some negative impact on society and the companies intentionally adopt unfair means for their profit motives, the majority of the advertisements have some beneficial roles for society.
