Topic: Some people say that success is ’10 percent talent and 90 percent hard work’. Is hard work the key to success, or is talent also important?

Band 7 IELTS Essay

Many people think that in order to succeed, a lot of hard work is required rather than natural talent. Despite the importance of the gifts that God has given us, I believe that hard effort is the most important and fundamental component of every success. First of all, working hard develops persistence and discipline, both of which are necessary for success.

This is due to the fact that, when endowed with a particular talent, one cannot do anything without developing and honing that talent. In other words, just like gold, our natural traits are merely raw material that needs to be refined to become sparkling diamonds. Since skill alone is never sufficient, the only way to improve our innate abilities is via hard work. Even when we labour diligently and with purpose, which can only be a means to a successful end, our abilities may be lost due to pride and other vices. The idea behind this is founded on the maxim that whatever we do not grow, we lose. A gifted vocalist who is unwilling to further their education in music theory and other singing-related skills will always perform worse. Rather than someone who had these natural abilities but had invested the time and effort necessary to become a professional musician. Finally, it is important to note that tremendous success is guaranteed when one has a talent and uses it by working hard and consistently. This is so that a useful product can be made from a raw material after it has been polished. Despite the fact that talent is good, achievements are only achieved through ongoing development and motivation. These two traits, for instance, can be attested to the renowned football player Christiano Ronald. His current success is the result of using this talent, despite the fact that he has a talent for football. In conclusion, while our innate talents are significant, success only comes from hard effort that is applied via discipline and dedication.

For any person, success is always a result of their abilities and work ethic. While some claim that every success is a result of a combination of 90 parts of hard work and 10 parts talent, others disagree. I will explain in this essay why the former group's viewpoint is accurate and offer the justifications required to support my viewpoint.

People who believe that talent plays a significant role in success have their own arguments in favour of this belief. They mostly think that someone born with unique ability doesn't require any other factors to accomplish their aims. They also believe that prosperous individuals are successful. Such as Elon Musk, who became the richest man in the world overnight as a result of his investment in Bitcoin. His ability to plan ahead and take chances to invest in cryptocurrencies is the result of his talent. However, purchasing those would have required a tremendous amount of research and planning. Any individual can profit from having talent. But it would be a waste of time and effort to reach the goal without working hard. On the other hand, a lot of individuals, including myself, think that effort pays dividends. When people have perseverance and dedication attributes, they can achieve their goals even when they lack sufficient talent at times. Individuals that put forth a lot of effort never give up when they don't get the desired outcomes, and they also learn from their mistakes. Einstein himself stated in his writings that his talent was demonstrated once he put in the necessary effort to demonstrate it following his creation. His relativity theory nearly took ten arduous years to complete. Working hard on your own will lead to success, as has been demonstrated numerous times. But the talent on its own will not produce anything unless you put in the bare minimum of labour. Finally, some people think that effort is more important than talent—that hard work is 90 percent of the equation. Others dispute this claim, though. Since skill alone doesn't produce good outcomes without effort, I sincerely agree with the earlier remark.

Band 8 IELTS Essay

Everybody has the dream of being successful. Others contend that people must put forth a lot of effort to realise their destinies, while some believe that individuals should have a talent to pursue. I'll talk about both points of view in this article and explain why I entirely concur with the assertion made. Some people think that all famous superstars are successful because of their talent alone.

Therefore, no matter how much effort a person puts forth, if they lack an innate quality, their efforts will never yield a suitable result. For instance, Abhishek Bachchan, the only child of a well-known Bollywood actor, worked extremely hard to advance his acting career. But sadly, he lacked his father's acting and dancing talents and could not shine as brightly as his father. These people draw the conclusion that in order for anyone to succeed, knowledge or talent are absolutely necessary. However, in my opinion, this is not entirely accurate. Despite the logic stated above, many people, including myself, believe that genuine struggle is the key to achieving any goal in life. Although some talent is necessary, without a strong work ethic, dreams cannot be realised. Because anyone can master skills like singing, dancing, or even speaking eloquently if they are willing to put in a lot of effort. As an illustration, the success story of India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be applicable because he put in a ton of effort to reach his goal. Despite the fact that he battled and followed his potential to become the Prime Minister from being a tea vendor in his youth. It is clear that his hard work has paid off fairly well. He undoubtedly possessed the qualities of leadership. In conclusion, talent is unquestionably necessary for someone to shine in any sector. However, I believe that exerting yourself is what matters most. Because any person can develop the qualities or skills by working hard at them. As a result, I wholeheartedly concur with the adage "success is 10% talent and 90% hard effort."
