Paper exams can be used to measure intelligence unlike online exams. The use of pen and paper also helps the student to develop more cognitive abilities and helps to retain the context of the book. It explains why people who are good at exams tend to be good at other types of tasks, such as research or assignments. A range of standards is typically included with paper tests to evaluate different abilities. A student who is able to negotiate effectively and think critically can handle logical tests well. However, some opponents believe that pen and paper tests tend to be predictable. Learning by rote is likely to be the most common method of preparation for learners. The evaluation system in the traditional system is less accurate however it's more descriptive in nature. As compared to pen-and-paper tests, online exams require fewer resources. In the case of paper-based exams the verification of answers and result processing are huge and prone to error and biases. Other materials like stationary items, printing of tests and materials are required to conduct pen and paper, which is much easier in CBT based exams.

It may seem that written exams are less expensive and require fewer resources than other formats of examinations, such as oral and computerized tests.When large-scale examinations are held, such as university entrance exams, this happens especially. A recent study has found that paper-and-pencil examinations are more likely to be objective. In many cases, institutions can save up to 50 percent when moving to an online system. Moreover, the whole process of pen and paper exams is not eco-friendly. In the traditional evaluation process, a great deal of paper is wasted. The institution's environmentally friendly initiatives and university-wide goals are often at odds with wasting such valuable resources.

It is undeniable that written exams possess some advantages that justify their importance in the current academic context around the world. The traditional practices should be improved by the introduction of new practical, highly effective techniques of testing to supplement the existing one. Thus, a variety of tests should be introduced, including oral portions, teamwork, and public presentations as well as written tests.
