Band 8 IELTS Essay

The crime rate is increasing day by day. The government is taking several measures to tackle this issue. Some strongly believe that reducing the poverty rate will reduce crime to a large extent. It is true but along with reducing poverty government should also ensure strict police patrolling and punishment.

Many crimes occur to fulfill the basic needs of humans. But some are real crimes that have a criminal background, they should be given strict punishment and penalty. Fighting poverty by itself, however, won't make things better. Not all criminals come from disadvantaged backgrounds. Some people are outright criminals who can only be changed through punishment. In addition, their worry about going to jail might stop them from committing crimes. Additionally, increased police presence will automatically instill a sense of fear in criminals, making them afraid to commit any crimes in their presence. For instance, the government in Delhi has added more police officers to the roadside to ensure the safety of female employees working night shifts.

In conclusion, combating crime is a difficult task, but the government can implement effective measures to lessen this problem. The government can significantly lower the crime rate by increasing job opportunities for the unemployed. This can be done by beefing up police patrols, and enforcing harsh penalties for offenders.

Band 7 IELTS Essay

The rate of crime around the world is rising quickly day by day. The police and prisons, in the opinion of some, are the best tools for reducing crime. Others, however, believe that addressing the root causes, such as inadequate education and poverty, is the best way to combat the rising crime rates.

First off, because police are present everywhere to directly combat crime, criminals will be less aggressive in committing crimes. Criminals are reluctant to commit crimes, especially when the police are present because they find it difficult to do so. Since there will always be police in the area, there will be less crime. For instance, stationing at least one police officer on every street in a residential area, makes criminals feel uneasy about committing crimes. This prevents them from doing so uninhibitedly. Therefore, having more police reduces crime because they are not free to commit crimes.

Additionally, more arrests by the police can result in the incapacitation or cessation of crime by the targeted offenders. The fact that we cannot apprehend the primary offender and that most criminals operate in groups makes it possible for crime to continue to rise. To prevent the other criminals from escaping, this additional police can aid in the simultaneous arrest of all the criminals. For instance, in a street robbery, the offender can easily escape because there are numerous streets nearby. The criminal will undoubtedly be taken into custody if there are enough police present.

In addition, criminals will be deterred from committing crimes by punishments like being put in prison. In contrast to living outside, where you are free to go anywhere, eat whatever you want, and do whatever you want. As long as it won't bother other people, prison life is very different from living outside. It's possible to compare prison to a place where everything is constrained. Typically, you must serve longer than a year in prison.

In a nutshell, I believe that we should treat criminals harshly. There are also sinners from wealthy backgrounds who commit crimes like not filing their taxes. As a result, I do not believe we can successfully lower crime by concentrating only on its causes.

Band 6.5 IELTS Essay

To ensure the safety and security of residents in a given society, the crime rate must be decreased. While some people believe that increasing the number of police officers and prisons is the best way to reduce crime. Others believe that improving economic welfare is the best way to do so. I believe that to effectively combat crime, all of these actions are necessary.

The number of police officers patrolling the streets should be increased for several reasons. They will serve as a deterrent and make offenders reconsider committing robberies or shoplifting. Additionally, they will make law-abiding citizens feel safer. Punishing those who engage in criminal activity is equally important. They should be kept in confinement because they pose a risk to people's lives and property. The struggles they go through in prison and the ensuing social isolation may change at least some of them.

Perhaps ensuring everyone's financial security would be a better way to lower crime rates. According to studies, most criminals come from backgrounds where money is tight. The majority of the time, people's poverty drives them to engage in criminal behavior. The government will automatically reduce crime rates if it can increase employment and guarantee everyone's financial security. Naturally, this will necessitate increased government spending on K–12 education and job training. People who are educated and skilled will be able to create their jobs. Additionally, they are less inclined to commit crimes.

In conclusion, combating crime is a difficult task, and the government must use every tool at its disposal to accomplish this. This will entail placing more police officers on the streets, locking criminals, and guaranteeing everyone's economic security.
