Topic: Some students take a year off between school and university, to work or to travel. Do the advantages of this outweigh the disadvantages?

Band 7 IELTS Essay

There are different perspectives for everyone when it comes to identifying whether students taking a year off for their studies before going to University is advantageous or not. In one way, we can think that this can bring more disadvantages to students as gaps can cause understanding problems to students. As they are freshly graduated from higher secondary education they need to continue their study to have a flow of education for them. They can find difficulty like their year is wasted which results in an academic loss.

For inexperienced school leavers, life outside of the university campus may be mentally and physically daunting. They may, for example, be exploited in an arduous job or encounter potential threats while traveling to a new nation. Young high school graduates may face unanticipated repercussions if they are not well equipped for such challenges.

On the other hand, a 1-year break can have positive effects as students can mentally prepare them for learning so hard and do their work on time, they can also be relieved from the stress of study. They can do a part-time job to enhance their skill and start to earn by learning the practical approaches of life. Also if they start their career overseas it will broaden their mind. They will look at every aspect before deciding the things, they will learn to save money. Taking a break from school or university cannot be considered as a disadvantage unless the students are engaged in some kind of productive activities. Whether it is a part time job or even undertaking a technical course of their choice, it might help them enhance their skills. Moreover, with the increasing pressure in education to prove that he/she is highly efficient, taking breaks helps in peace of mind. This further increases concentration as students are more relaxed and can focus effectively.

In conclusion, despite some drawbacks, I believe that the advantages of taking a gap year outweigh the disadvantages for the reasons stated.

Band 7.5 IELTS Essay

Nowadays, many students prefer to take a year off before starting university. While this may have some drawbacks for students, I believe the benefits they can gain outweigh the drawbacks.

The probable disadvantages are that children who take a year out from school may forget certain important subjects by the time they return. As a result, individuals must devote extra time to studying for the university admission exam. Second, these students enroll in universities later than their present contemporaries since they took a year off to travel or work. The age difference could make it difficult for them to blend in and find new friends. Also if a student starts earning then he/she will be disdained from their studies.

But benefits of the year off are also counted, First and foremost, the student can pursue his interests before committing to a degree. A student who has just graduated from high school is aware of his true passions. He will have time to reflect during his gap year, and he may discover something he had never considered studying before. Second, he can save money to pay for his schooling and relieve his parents of part of the financial load. This would help students to become independent and even develop skills and knowledge through the year long gap. Apparently, work experiences and skills in specialised areas are highly essential in the job market. It opens up greater opportunities for the students to pursue a better professional life. Moreover, nowadays, students are also undertaking freelance projects in different fields which helps them earn money and even enjoy their adulthood as independently. They do not have to be dependent on their parents in order to want to party or go for a trip. Significantly, taking long breaks have more positive impact and outweights the disadvantages. So if planned properly, a year gap can have more relevant advantages over children’s future.

Band 8 IELTS Essay

Sometimes it is recommended that students take a year gap after finishing their studies. There are several arguments to this.

One viewpoint states that It can be good for students before the commencement of university or college since they need to relax and unwind so that they can concentrate on their studies and achieve a high grade. Students, for example, must be able to study without feeling stressed or frustrated. Also, if students can work for a specific company and receive a wage, they will be able to pay for their university tuition either at the same place or abroad. A gap year is an excellent way for students to learn about topics that are not covered in university.

Working with other specialists in a field can provide these newbies with not only a grasp of the job, but also crucial practical lessons that will help them mature. Undergraduates can learn knowledge more successfully than those who attend university right immediately if they have a relaxed and willing attitude.

Similarly, it can disadvantageous as Academic growth is slowed as a result of taking a year off from school. It is understandably nearly difficult for young people to enjoy their experiences working or travelling to new places while also scheduling time for revision. As a result, gap-year participants may face the problem of relearning the material at school, putting them under extra pressure to keep up with their peers. Furthermore, for inexperienced school leavers, life outside the university campus may be mentally and physically stressful. They may, for example, be exploited in an arduous job or encounter potential threats while travelling to a new nation. So, different possibilities and outcome prevail when there is a topic of a debatable question. one should understand his/her needs and plan accordingly for future possibilities.
