Topic: Some say that the Internet is making the world smaller by bringing people together. To what extent do you agree that the Internet is making it easier for people to communicate with one another?

Band 8 IELTS Essay

From telephones or sending letters, communication and socialization greatly value us, humans. We like being close to each other and at times when our dear ones lived away from us, communication was difficult for people. But after the internet entered this world, everything changed. The world has transformed into a global platform and this generation has turned digital. I strongly agree with the statement that the internet is bringing people together.

The Internet connects people. Mark Zuckerberg’s Facebook, WhatsApp, and Instagram help people to text from any corner of the world and connect. Platforms like Twitter connect the ideas of people together as well. These platforms help people to share their talent. It gives them a chance to feel appreciated from any part of the world and the random or strange compliment touches the artist inside a person. It makes them more creative and confident. It’s not only the social media platforms that are helping. Rather than Google. Sites like Wikipedia provide information on famous people and not just from one country or place but throughout the world. Further, this information helps others to recognize those people. People who have people from their families living outside their town, state or country can feel the presence of their loved ones. This has been made easy with one click on the video chat. People can even work in different places from just their homes and this is also possible because of the internet. Instead of letters, they can send emails, or instead of sending greetings to their loved ones over these letters. Further, waiting for days to receive them and suffering through the waiting, people can use their smartphones and simply leave a text. People don’t care about religion or gender at times while connecting, they just connect in this online world regardless of anyone’s background. Obviously, the communists are there but still, there’s a sense of unity among strangers throughout the world. However, not on the basis of religion, caste, or gender but on the basis of humanity. At times, people receive support through the internet more than they do from the people around them in the real world.

Life has become simpler and easier with no waiting only because of the internet. Unity, communication, and finding love or information feel more true now than they did ever before.

Band 6 IELTS Essay

From a nine-year-old to a ninety-year-old, everyone now is aware of the internet. People connect with each other through the internet. They communicate and share their talents and their conversations through the internet now. But is this bringing people closer or is this creating a drift that people are unaware to see or acknowledge? I don’t really agree with the part where the internet is bringing people together in a good sense.

Yes, the internet is connecting people but it is also connecting people that shouldn’t be connected at all. There are people who are on the wrong side of this world and when these people interact with the better ones, they affect their way of thinking as well. The Internet might provide social media platforms to encourage someone’s talent but it also gives birth to the dark side of this world. People defame or suppress someone’s talent without revealing their identities. The Internet is also responsible for giving rise to cyberbullying. We need cyber security departments and cyber laws to protect people. In my opinion, it’s increasing the crime rate. People follow the paths of impersonation or blackmailing through the internet. They hack accounts and blackmail people without caring about the hurt ones’ emotions. The fancy lives that are shown on social media are also ruining the real lives of many. People compare and the internet is causing depression and anxiety and low self-esteem in people. They defame others with fake identities. Some, on the other hand, get offended by the ideas that people share through the internet. That too in such a manner that they take actions related to them in real life.

The internet was supposed to bring people together. But it is creating a dark world of its own which shouldn’t be appreciated but the sad thing is, a lot of people simply don’t acknowledge it. And this appreciates this world of people who have negative sides.

Band 6.5 IELTS Essay

Today’s world is the world of globalization. From currencies to communication, the world has connected all around and this is all because of the internet. Yet, I agree and disagree with the point that it is good and is bringing people together.

Every part of life has two different perspectives as does this world of the internet. It connects people through communication. There was a time when the wife of an army man used to wait for days or even years only to figure out whether her husband was still alive or not. But now, she can see him through video calls when it’s not war. There are many such cases where the waiting has been resolved and people have built up great relations. Because of the internet. It has brought many people together. It provides platforms where people can showcase their talents, they can be their real and artistic shelves. But with good, there also comes the bad. When some people are filled with the positivity to compliment others, the rest are busy taking out their negativities to criticize their talents. People bully others with confidence because their faces are hidden. This affects many in regard to law and mental health. On the bright side for the law and mental health, there have been people who have come closer and have opened up about themselves. They trust their online people more and feel comfortable around them enough to talk about problems that they can’t talk about with people in real life.

The internet might not have good people all the time. But it’s the same people that we meet in real life so, the good or the bad is in reality that we’re just too blinded to see at times. It’s not really the fault of the internet. As scary as the internet could be, it also can be very safe for people who have difficulties communicating in real life and this brings people together.
