Band 8 IELTS Essay
Animals like rats, chimpanzees and pigs are often used for experimentation with respect to medical trials to check whether the medicine that has been discovered is conducive or not. The above mentioned practices have raised many eyebrows resulting in many heated arguments and difference of ideologies and opinions. Some feel it is not ethical to use animals for experimentation while some are of the opinion human lives are more important as compared to animals.
The main reason we use certain animals for experimentation is that they have the same gene structure as that of human beings. It is always better to test it on animals than humans especially when the effects of the medicines are totally unknown. The most popular example to validate this statement is the recent testing of covid vaccines on chimpanzees and rats before administering that to humans. The medicines were given to humans only after it has been found to be effective and successful. The entire process has fastened the whole process thus by saving millions of human lives. The above step was a sigh of relief for millions during the pandemic and the earlier discovery of vaccines helped in saving many. Thus one can say animals are the best living thing to be used to check the effectiveness of the discovered medicine. This is because they are immune to such experimentation to a larger extent compared to that of human beings.
On the contrary, the main issue associated with this is that one is unaware of the intensity of torture these animals have to undergo without their permission. Moreover we are unable to understand their vulnerable situation and the future repercussions these animals have to face because of this experimentation. In a way we humans are exploiting these poor souls at their expense for our progression and survival.
I agree animal experimentations are indispensable for our progression but we cannot just ignore the consequences these animals have to face. According to my point of view, animals should be used for medical trials only when there are no other options available. I strongly condemn the use of these animals to test cosmetics and such practices should be completely done away with. Even if they are used for experimentations for medical and other scientific purposes one must make sure that they are subjected to minimal pain and all rules and regulations are followed.
Band 7.5 IELTS Essay
Life is of utmost importance irrespective of whether they are human beings, animals or birds. Most people are of the opinion that involving animals for experimentation is inhumane. Others believe that for the progression and development of science and technology experimentations are inevitable. I am of the opinion that use of animals for experimentation is a form of exploitation and sheer violation of the right to life. As far as animals are concerned so such practices must be avoided.
Endangering the lives of innocent animals for the sake of human progression is not a constructive way of doing experimentations. Many animals are ill-treated, exploited and even get killed due to the adverse impact of the experiments that have been conducted. It is often found that animals subjected to the trial tests are prone to illness. This is because of the overdose of chemical substances and drugs that have been injected in their bodies to check the effectiveness of the medicine. Most of the time these animals are too weak to withstand the aftereffects of the medicine. In the worst scenario it can even result in the untimely deaths of these animals that are used for testing or some may even exhibit mental and physical disorders as well.
There are a huge chunk of people who believe that for science to progress such necessary evils need to be done. Science has helped mankind from the clutches of many deadly diseases that didn’t have any solution before and the recent augmentation in the field of science. Technology has miraculously saved many people as far as covid is concerned. The innovations in the field of science not only helped in the progression of research and development. But also helped in increasing the life expectancy as well as standard of living of many people. Despite these progressions and achievements one cannot ignore the fact that many innocent animals were mercilessly tortured for our ends to be met. Huge injustice is happening to them and we are not paying heed to it and are exploiting them despite being aware of the future consequences.
I believe that we the human beings are exploiting these animals and are violating their liberty to live that no one has the right to meddle with. Science has made the impossible possible and has contributed towards high living standards and life span but it is always better to avoid experiments on animals for maintaining the equilibrium of our environment.
Band 7 IELTS Essay
The use of animals in experiments has been a contentious issue for many years. While some experts believe that using animals in research is useful, others believe that it is a cruel practice. In-depth discussions of both points of view—why using animals in research is beneficial and why, in my opinion, testing them is cruel—will be covered in this article.
The creation of novel medications is the primary advantage of using animals in research. Over decades, as medical knowledge develops, researchers work hard to find a treatment for several fatal diseases. The most recent medications created by pharmaceutical corporations undergo animal testing prior to being utilized in clinical trials on humans, which has resulted in several medical advancements involving animals. For instance, insulin was used to treat canine diabetes in the 1920s. Consequently, it is advantageous in the medical industry.
Even while employing animals in tests has greatly advanced science, some people are against it. Because the objective of the study cannot justify the pain of the animals, humans have no moral right to experiment on them. Following each study, several animals have perished from injuries or exposure to toxic substances. For instance, cosmetic companies put their skin and eye care products through irritant tests on rabbits. As a result, harming animals through unneeded experimentation is possible.
In conclusion, while animals are not people, they deserve the same respect as people. This article examined both the advantages of animal testing in the modern world and the reasons why doing so is cruel. I reiterate that it is cruel to employ animals in testing facilities at the expense of advancing science.
