Topic: Some people think that taxation should be kept to a minimum as the money people earn should be theirs to do with as they wish. Others believe that people should pay a significant level of tax in order to support the public services we all depend on. In your view, what is the fairest way to deal with the issue of taxation?

Band 8 IELTS Essay

Tax is, and always has been, a big issue that divides people and distinguishes one party or ideology from another. Few people like a significant portion of their income being withheld at source, so voters often look favorably on politicians who promise to keep taxes low. In fact, he is a bold political leader who proposes tax increases when running for office. In my opinion, taxation is essential to provide essential services, but it is also something that needs to be made more transparent. For example, there are certain services that we all use, more or less. These services include everything from street cleaning to social services, education to crime prevention.

We all need our city councils to clear our litter and our police to protect our streets and ourselves. Taxation seems the most effective way to fund these services. But making people feel that the tax system is fair and works in their individual and society's overall interest is clearly a challenge. I believe the answer lies in accountability. Technology is so advanced now that we should be able to track how governments and local authorities are spending tax revenues and hold them to account if the money is not being spent properly. This won't end the debate over whether taxes are high or low, but at least we'll have more transparency about what happens to the money we pay.

Band 7.5 IELTS Essay

There are a lot of taxes these days. Some people think that they have to spend the money they earn, they want things, and they don't want to minimize their taxes. Some people think that they should pay high taxes to support public services. Neither opinion is wrong. There are several reasons for this. There are a lot of taxes in our developed countries, and there are several reasons for this. The first reason is that now people use government products and pay for them. For example, they consume water, gas, and other things. Therefore, they have to pay taxes to the country. The government spends these taxes on public services such as public transport and pensions. If people pay higher taxes, public services will be better than they are now. Now people no longer pay the minimum tax rate.

There are several reasons for this. Many people earn less and spend that money on different things, such as food for their children, transportation, clothing, recreation, etc. That's why people want to pay the minimum tax rate. Most people don't have high-paying jobs, they earn average incomes, but some people have high-paying jobs. The population distinguishes between rich and poor. They have to pay taxes according to their income.

Taxes have a positive impact on people's lives because the government spends on pensions, public transport, and various other things. But taxes are also beneficial. Not everyone has a high salary, so they should only pay a minimum tax rate or have taxes levied based on their income.

Many believe that governments should impose high taxes on individuals to raise enough funds for development. Some argue that taxes should remain at a minimum level so that people have enough money to spend. First of all, almost every country in the world, whether developing or developed, has income tax rules for industries and citizens. With the help of such currency, governments can fund basic facilities like primary education, healthcare, public transport, and infrastructure. It is also the most efficient and transparent way to utilize the right portion of revenue for the good of society. Moreover, we humans also have a moral responsibility to contribute to development and reform without thinking of personal gain. To create a better environment, governments require huge resources for research, defense, and administration. For example, in India, every citizen is required to pay a certain amount of tax according to their income, which goes directly towards the development of the nation. On the other hand, minimal or no taxes mean that people earn more money and have enough money for personal gain. In many countries, people do not receive similar benefits from the government despite paying taxes regularly to the authorities. This is why many people prefer minimum taxes. Also, people believe that everyone has the right to freedom, so they cannot be forced to pay a certain amount for public services. For example, in countries like Switzerland and Dubai, people do not collect income tax, but they have a moral responsibility and will collect enough money according to their ability if the government demands it.

In other words, I think the government should raise taxes according to income and lower or no taxes for low-income earners. Moreover, the government should also explore other ways to generate enough funds without putting a strain on personal budgets.
