Band 6 IELTS Essay

Television is one of the biggest sources of entertainment in this generation where people are highly interested in spending their leisure time. There are some people who think that the presence of more TV channels is good as they have more choices. Some other people believe that too many channels results in poor quality of the programmes. While both the views have their own significance, the essay would discuss both the sides and present my opinion. Accordingly, people spend their time watching TV which provides them with amusement as well as knowledge.

However, it acts differently for different ages and types of people. Children are more interested in watching cartoons and superhero programmes while younger generations are more inclined towards TV series with exciting plots. On the other hand, older generations are more interested in watching TV for news for political and socio-cultural issues. However, even the younger generation nowadays take interest in expanding their knowledge on current affairs. The presence of too many TV channels enables them to watch the different programmes allowing them to have ideas on what different channels are trying to portray. With news it helps the young and older generation to understand the different priorities that the news channels are focusing upon. Further, having access to different TV channels for movies and TV shows allows the younger generation to be able to watch their favourite ones whenever possible. Children find it interesting to watch different cartoons with different plot lines while having their favourites picked and never them during the scheduled hours. However, on the other hand, there is a downside to having too many channels as well. Whether it is news or entertainment shows, too many channels means too much manipulation and too many stories. Many times similar types of stories are portrayed by different channels which makes it monotonous. It simply deteriorates the quality of the stories portrayed by the channels and hence, can be considered to be illogical. Thus, in my opinion too many channels may not be harmful or inefficient if the stories are more original and authentic than being monotonous and biassed.

Band 7 IELTS Essay

Entertainment has become part of our lives and we find ourselves entertained in different ways. One of the most amusing ways of being entertained is through watching television. I think people have been watching television for a long time as a way of spending their leisure time or even to relax. In today’s world, with the mass media growing exponentially, numerous TV channels have emerged. While some people think it is a positive way of getting more choices for entertainment shows, others feel it decreases the quality of the programmes.

The essay would discuss both the views and then provide an opinion. TV channels are able to ensure that their audience remains engaged with the content that they programme. Certainly, while kids are more inclined towards cartoon related channels, young adults are more into TV shows and sports channels. On the other hand, the older people are interested in watching news or sports channels as well. With the presence of too many channels, they can opt for any one of their favourite channels broadcasting their favourite shows and enjoy them. There can even be the same movie that is being telecast at different times of the same day. This allows them to watch the movie in their convenient times. However, on the other hand, the second point of view regarding the poor quality due to many channels is also true. When too many channels exist within the TV, more or less most of the content programmed are similar. Even if the programmes like the movie or TV show are different, their plot line becomes quite similar. This makes it boring and monotonous. While different channels try to show similar stories, the quality of the programmes decrease. Hence, having too many channels on TV might confuse people and further, decrease the quality of the programmes that are telecast.

Band 7.5 IELTS Essay

Considering that watching TV is one of the most exciting ways of keeping yourself entertained in daily life, there are way too many channels on television nowadays. Some people view that it provides them with numerous options to choose from while some people consider it decreases the quality of programmes. The essay, by discussing both sides, would provide an opinion.

The development of people and technology has its relevance with watching television and having many channels. People have expanded their space and position in the media industry and the coming of many channels is a proof of the same. However, there are too many shows that are programmed which allows people to have many options. They may find some of their favourite programmes being telecast in one of the channels or another. This incessantly keeps them entertained. The numerous channels can be found on similar genres like sports, wildlife, movies, TV shows, etc. Furthermore, even regional channels can be identified to have been gaining quite a momentum in different parts of the world. From Turkish based TV shows and movies to even French and Spanish movies and TV channels can be identified being expanded in the global platform. Taking into consideration the latter opinion, the quality of shows tend to decrease when most of them are copied or have similar stories. Further, the plotline becomes so exhausting that it makes it boring for the people to even watch the programmes. Even news channels nowadays are more interested in showing the stories which all others are able to cover while most of the time, important issues get bailed out. Many times, some channels even in order to increase their ratings and views on their channels make too many shows. This may not be socially viable and impacts negatively on people. Thus, in my opinion having too many channels does give options but the quality definitely falls for the programmes.
