Band 8.5 IELTS Essay

In recent years, mechanised agriculture as well as organic farming have both developed. Both the former and the latter have scientific proponents. Natural farming and permaculture are also supported by some people. There have been a lot of scientific discoveries and observations about how agriculture has evolved. Because of the introduction of genetically modified plants and animals, mechanised farming has evolved into factory farming.

Some claim that automated agriculture, factory farming, and genetically engineered crops are vastly superior than conventional or organic farming. In order to produce a very big quantity of fruits, vegetables, and animals, mechanised farming requires less time and area. It is independent of climatic and environmental conditions. The whims of the weather won't have an impact on it. With the highest output possible per square foot, it requires less labor. Anywhere in the world under controlled conditions, any kind of crop can be grown. Unseasonal crops can also be grown in greenhouses and sold at profitable prices at various times of the year. The modern form of farming makes it very simple to control pests and illnesses.

Some people believe that organic farming, natural farming, and permaculture techniques are much superior to chemical farming. These techniques enable the protection of a large portion of the local biodiversity, including traditional plants and animals. They are ideally suited to the local climates of various parts of the world. They are beneficial for consumers' health because no chemicals are used. The agricultural lands and village environments are not polluted by these methods. Compared to natural farming practices, the nutrients' quality and flavour appear to be superior. For the villagers, these techniques result in numerous days of employment.

Both traditional and modern agricultural practises have benefits and drawbacks, it has been determined. According to weather conditions, productivity is higher with the modern method while risk is reduced. Employment opportunities, security, a pristine environment, and the preservation of biodiversity are all present in traditional methods. The kind of agriculture is up for selection by the government, farmers, and consumers.

Band 7.5 IELTS Essay

Agriculture development is a hot issue in the present world market. There has been a number of debates about whether to continue the trend or have to go back to traditional farming. With the growing demand for food, there is a need for different kinds of agricultural practices. Since time immemorial there has been a practice of traditional agriculture.

With the increase in the number of agricultural colleges, universities, and research stations, there has been a rapid change in the method of cultivation and growing animals. Besides these, there is health consciousness all over the world. This one gives emphasis on traditional organic farming methods.

The modern method of agriculture includes mechanization, factory farming, intensive farming, genetically modified crops, and hybrid breeds of animals. In these methods crops and animals are grown in controlled conditions. Here temperature, humidity, water, and nutrient supply are precisely controlled. There is no need to depend on seasons and regions for growing crops and animals. In this method, more production takes place with less space, time, and manpower. Most of the greenhouse and factory farms are automated. There is no need to apply fertilizers, pesticides, and weedicides manually. Everything is supplied through irrigation pipes.

The traditional methods of agriculture involve natural farming, organic farming, and permaculture. Here farmers have to depend on climatic zones, weather conditions and animals to do farming. needs more manpower and time to grow crops and animals. Though it has less productivity, it gives a safe environment, nutrition, health, and employment to humankind. It also saves native flora and fauna from extinction. A lot of native varieties of crops and animals can be conserved and grown every year. It has problems with pests and diseases. Farmers need in-depth knowledge of biological control methods to reduce losses.

It is the choice of the farmers, consumers, and the government to choose the kind of agricultural practice. The majority of scientists, farmers and market forces prefer agriculture development with machines, chemicals, and hybrid seeds. The majority of environmentalists, organic farmers, and health conscientious people prefer traditional agriculture. It would be better to combine both methods to the optimum level so that production can be increased without causing bad effects on health and the environment.

Band 6.5 IELTS Essay

With the advancement in science and technology on one side and the increase in consciousness about health and the environment on the other side, agriculture is taking two directions. The development of science and technology pushes us towards agriculture development on par with industrial development. Issues of health and the environment push us towards traditional methods of agriculture. As educated people, we have to make a balance between the two and integrate them to get more production along with health and the environment.

With the increase in population, food business, and food habits, there is a need for increasing agricultural production tremendously. As the land under agriculture decreases due to urbanization, there is a need for intensive agriculture. Owing to these two opposite reasons, agriculture scientists are making a number of inventions and innovations in that direction. Controlled mechanized and chemical farming is becoming very prominent in the world. A number of factory farms are coming up in most advanced countries. With less space, time, manpower, and inputs scientists are getting maximum output. Greenhouse farming, precision farming, factory farming, and intensive farming are in vogue these days. Automation through artificial intelligence has become common in these modern farms. Other branches of agriculture are coming up like soilless culture, especially aeroponics and hydroponics. Here temperature, humidity, nutrition, and water supply are precisely and automatically controlled.

But, the above kind of agriculture needs harmful chemicals. They will definitely damage the environment, flora, fauna, and health of human beings. The hybrid varieties and genetically modified crops and animals replace native biodiversity. So, it is being emphasized by environmentalists and humanitarian organizations to shift to traditional forms of agriculture. Traditional farming has different forms like eco-farming, natural farming, organic farming, zero-farming and permaculture. It requires biological control of pests and diseases and organic manures, So, there is less requirement for harmful chemicals.

It is up to the consumers, farmers, and governments to adopt suitable kinds of agriculture suited to the environment, health, and demand. An integrated approach to agriculture development that is acceptable to all is immediately required.
