Topic: Some people say that older people should live with their adult children, while others think they should live in homes specially built for old people. Which do you think is a better practice?

Band 8 IELTS Essay

The majority of the population agrees to the fact that senior citizens should reside with their adult children. However, there are few individuals that disagree with the fact and insist that old age homes are one of the best places for older people to reside. According to me, it is beneficial for the old aged people to live in an old age home or care facility. This will ensure a round the clock surveillance on them with access to appropriate health facilities. Moreover, they will get enough opportunities to socialise with the ones from their age group.

There is a major misconception that life in an old age home is very much stressful and boring. However, it is not as such. There are a number of opportunities that residents of old age homes can get. There have been studies that suggest being socially active helps individuals stay happy in any given stage of life. Furthermore, being socially active is very important at old age because individuals feel more vulnerable at that particular age.

In order to provide residents with the greatest care possible, senior care facilities also staff them with physicians and other medical specialists. Additionally, they receive timely, nutrient-dense meals, and assistance is given as needed so that they can carry out their daily tasks.

Staying with one's own grown children may appear more advantageous in contrast, but this is typically not the case. Managing high levels of loneliness is a common challenge for parents who live with their adult children. Nowadays, a lot of families have a working husband and wife. The elderly parent typically has to spend the full day alone in a residence when youngsters also depart for school.

In conclusion, while it's often accepted that elders receive excellent care and company when they live with their children, this isn't always the case. Since many elderly people who live with their children are doomed to a life of isolation. In my opinion it is better for them to reside in a care facility where they may get both medical attention and opportunity to socialise with other residents.

Band 6.5 IELTS Essay

The question of whether elderly people should reside in homes with their families or in separate community facilities is contentious. This article holds that it is beneficial for a family if elderly people live with their offspring, and it will analyse the arguments for both viewpoints.

If elderly people reside in special areas that have been carefully created to meet their needs, there are significant benefits. As people age, they may develop various illnesses including cancer or heart issues that require particular care on a regular basis or in an emergency. Nowadays, living in a communal area is more convenient than renting an apartment. Because there are usually skilled nurses and cutting-edge medical facilities available to serve residents. In addition, families are compelled to live in cramped quarters due to rising rents and city living costs. This leaves less space for grandparents to reside with their adult offspring.

We could not, however, dismiss the advantages of living with family for elderly individuals. Grandparents would come in helpful by staying at home during the day, caring for the children. Further, assisting with household duties as dual-income households became increasingly prevalent in modern culture. When parents work long hours, they are not compelled to hire a babysitter or sign up their kids for extracurricular activities to fill the after-hours void. Living near one another would be advantageous for both family and the elderly in terms of emotional support. For instance, current studies show a considerable improvement in the psychological health of senior persons who relocate to their family from community settings.

In conclusion, this essay believes that, despite the difficulties, the benefits of living with family outweigh its negatives. Even though recently community areas have become more convenient to live for the elderly.

Band 6 IELTS Essay

There is much debate over whether it is preferable to care for elderly people in their own homes or allow them to reside in nursing homes. Although the second viewpoint can be advantageous in some circumstances. In my opinion, the former viewpoint appears to be more advantageous for senior citizens themselves.

On the one hand, there are many arguments in favour of proponents' position that elderly persons should be placed in nursing facilities. There is no denying that today's youth are overworked to the point where they have little time to care for their elderly parents. As a result, many older individuals not only have to complete tasks on their own but may also experience loneliness and boredom in their homes. Furthermore, the majority of retired people are actually more prone to experience health problems or joint-related illnesses that prevent them from walking.

On the other hand, I am more certain that the old will be happier if they can live with their adult children. Further, grandkids who have specific roles in the elderly people's lives. First off, most elderly people report feeling happier when they regularly interact with their adult children. Moreover, once they reach retirement age, they assist in caring for their grandkids. They no longer experience the stigma of being a burden to their children because of this. This makes them feel useful to society. In other words, ageing adults' mental health, which is crucial to extending their life expectancy, can benefit from living close to their devoted family.

In conclusion, although older people who live in nursing homes can gain medically from doing so. So, I firmly believe that retired people should live with their adult children in order to retain their mental health and lengthen their life.
