Topic: Some people prefer to have temporary jobs, which means they only work a few months in a year and use the rest of the time to do what they want.

Band 6 IELTS Essay

Nowadays , some people prefer to have temporary jobs for a short period of time by utilizing the rest of the time rather than working full time in a permanent job . I believe both jobs have certain advantages and disadvantages attached to it . However , the question arises whether temporary jobs are worth it. Some of the arguments are discussed below.

Most of the time temporary jobs are chosen by job seekers who are available as seasonal job seekers in local fields or surroundings. It provides an extra amount of income while the search for a permanent job continues. Job seekers may be able to try out various careers, employers, professions, and industries. As a result of this opportunity, a job seeker can begin their career migration to a new field. It also helps to fill the gap of experience needed for the next position and also fills the gap in the resume’s employment history . In a situation of unemployment, a temporary job helps to provide basic needs to the family and provide security. There is also the possibility of a temporary job leading to a permanent job, known as a "temp-to-perm" job. Both employers and employees benefit from these jobs because they allow them to get to know one another.

However, the good part is it is a temporary job if someone doesn't like the work environment one can leave at any given time. This is a delicate balancing act. There are some people who are perfect for being temporary workers. While others prefer to change from temporary to full time jobs .

However, there are some disadvantages attached to temporary jobs . The nature of temp jobs is that they are short-term, usually lasting less than a month, sometimes as short as a week.Temp workers often report feeling isolated and undervalued by their colleagues. Thus, a much better option for a full time job is freelancing or contacting. Temporaries are not typically paid well, unless they possess a scarce skill. It is possible to find yourself with fewer benefits (such as paid vacations and sick days) depending on the agency. If you are still in a learning mode, you may not find the site manager or other employees to be very helpful. Despite the disadvantages, temporary jobs can provide an opportunity for job seekers to start their career. Thus it helps them to learn and upgrade their skills required for permanent employment.

Permanent jobs help to maintain a work schedule and set work hours which makes a person disciplined and active. Moreover, due to receiving a regular paycheck, there is less financial risk.It also helps to ensure that there is a continuing expectation of work. In most cases, employers provide paid time off, vacation days, and holiday pay. Permanent employers can receive added incentives on special occasions. Moreover it also helps to build a social network with other colleagues from different fields. Permanent jobs are a perfect space for growth for new employees and it also makes them more independent.

The disadvantages with permanent jobs like commuting to work is usually part of the routine which have a huge impact on health. In metropolitan cities people spend most of the time in traffic jams and they spend a lot of time while traveling. There are only a limited number of days off per year. The people working in MNCs develop bad eating habits which have a heavy impact on their well being.

In a permanent job a limited scope of work is provided which provides less freedom to decide one’s own schedule. However, I believe that temporary work is a source of employment for job seekers. In terms of money, temporary jobs can help to provide basic needs while also providing time to upgrade your skill and move higher in hierarchy. It thus provides a drive to be independent and free oneself from any kind of debt . Both the jobs have advantages and disadvantages but permanent jobs are best for the lifetime. However to gear up one’s career contractual jobs are good like content writing, vlogging, telecommunication etc. However temporary jobs can make people who have no dreams, motivation lazy . They can feel less motivated towards their work and it lacks job security. Companies can also make them work more and they can be underemployed. Companies can also dismiss the employee anytime without any prior notification and in part time jobs the salary is also less with no benefits.

Thus, that there are pros and cons attached to both jobs but the advantages of contractual based jobs outweigh permanent jobs.In such cases contractual work is a boon for the people .The majority of people take a part-time job, which means they work several months a year and spend the remainder of their time doing something they enjoy. The choice of whether to work part-time or full-time should be respected by all.
