Topic: Some people believe that family is more important than friends. To what extent do you agree and disagree?

Band 7 iELTS Essay

A friend is a person who knows you well and is there for you at all times. Some people consider their friends to be more significant than their family. Others, on the other hand, think that families are important. Currently, in my opinion, friends are closer than family.

First of all, a lot of people leave their homes when they are still quite young. This is the result of various things. Whether they are pursuing their degree in the United States or abroad, some leave for work, while others leave for more education. In those circumstances, they are separated from their family, leaving them with only their friends as family. We can choose our friends based on shared interests, personality traits, and compatibility. They are always available to you.

For instance, my family is in Delhi, but I've been living in Mumbai for the past five years. My friends are local and can quickly transport me to the hospital, so the first thing I do when I am ill is call them. Spending time with friends can be simpler or more challenging at different points in life. People must realise that friendship is a lifetime endeavour and that it is something to be valued at all times.

We must accept them as they are and live with them. There is no getting around the fact that our families serve as the cornerstone of our lives. A generational gap does exist, though.
The majority of kids think that their parents' opinions are different from their own. The rest of the family feels distant to them. For instance, because of our age difference, my father and I never have the same opinion. On the other hand, when I'm talking to friends, I can easily express my ideas without having to justify them. You can talk to them about anything with relative ease.
In conclusion, in today's society, friends are more significant than family. While we are away from home, they give us the emotional strength we require to deal with the problems we face every day. The true test of a friend is when they are in need.

Band 7.5 IELTS Essay

There are a lot of individuals in our lives that we meet. We have a variety of relationships with them. While some individuals believe that friends are extremely important, I believe that family members are far more important in our lives.

Any person's greatest asset is their family. To begin with, family members, particularly parents, are more involved in the upbringing of their children. From primary school to secondary education, parents serve as role models for their children. They spend time with them and teach them how to be productive members of society. Furthermore, from the moment we were born, our parents and grandparents have loved and nurtured us. They are the ones who supply us with shelter, clothing, and food, among other requirements. We'd be less if they didn't help us. We are less likely to survive without their help, much alone acquire education, which they also pay for. Nevertheless, we cannot receive such assistance from our friends.

After finishing school, we all tend to mingle with our friends/peers, who are usually more accepting than our family members because they are our age. A person can communicate personal difficulties with friends and receive sound advice from them. However, their family members' ideas are not acceptable to them because their adult parents cannot put themselves in their shoes. Nonetheless, this benefit becomes pale in comparison to the assistance that their families provide.

Another reason why family should always come first is that they are the ones who are most familiar with your deepest secrets. They were always there for you when you were a child. When there is a misunderstanding, most friends will exploit what they know about your shameful history or secrets to damage you. But your family is always worried about your well-being and will go to great lengths to ensure that your secrets are kept safe at all costs.

Finally, it is true that our friends play an important role in our lives. Family members, in contrast, are more significant. They care about our development, provide for us without expecting anything in return, and assist us in overcoming life's challenges.

Band 6 IELTS Essay

The proverb "Blood is thicker than water," suggests that blood ties are more powerful and significant than friendships. However, that is a matter of personal preference. Someone you select to be in your life is referred to as a friend. Family, on the other hand, is thrust upon you and there is nothing you can do about it. Isn't it unfair? That isn't to say, though, that family isn't important.

In times of need, family is generally always there for you. When you're sick, your parents stay up all night with you, work hard every day to put food on the table, buy you new clothes, video games, and everything else. They teach you how to communicate, walk, and even clean up after yourself. Big brothers assist you with sports, and sisters maintain your secrets and tease you constantly. Uncles provide you with money when they visit, and aunts tell your mother to let you do things.

But everything isn't perfect. Family members are the ones that are most likely to be jealous. When a family conflict is passed down through the generations, the children often end up hating each other rather than playing soccer together. Expectations are always present. Everyone in your family expects you to be both a doctor and an engineer. And if you don't meet those expectations, you'll be condemned and ridiculed for the rest of your life.

That’s something that friends would never do. They almost never have such high expectations, to begin with. They simply 'hope' you perform well enough in life to make a nice living and occasionally treat them to supper. Friends will not be bothered if you receive a D on an exam. But they will be concerned if you watch the latest episode of your favourite television show without them. And the pals don't hold anything against them.

Though, both family and friends are nearly equal in importance, with friends having a little advantage over family. You will feel more comfortable revealing anything with your friends without fear of being judged than with family.
