Band 8 IELTS Essay

There are many countries in the world and all of them speak different languages. Some languages are increasingly spoken in different countries for various reasons. There are also languages whose usage is decreasing rapidly. There are multiple factors that affect these situations. In this essay, we will discuss those factors and share if that is a negative or positive development.

Some languages increase rapidly due to colonialism, international trade, cultural attractions, media, cinema, and science and technology. The most important factor that takes part in the rise or fall of language is globalization. It has been proven that the growth of some languages has brought people from different parts of the world closer. The cultures or countries that were unable to accept these have perished. The accelerated growth of one or a few specific languages has helped in communication, education, and trade all over the world. People find it easier to propagate cultures, traditions, religions, emotions, and ideas across the world very fast. Let us consider English. It has been used widely and almost every country speaks or understands English. There has been an immense spurt in free communication between different cultural and ethnic groups all over the world. The growth of some languages helped to bind people of different regions and religions. Modern business and trade have become very fast through the technological revolution in the form of email, WhatsApp, chatting, mobile phones, the internet, and online payments. This technological advancement has become possible due to a few languages which have been known by the majority of the people in the world. It would not have become possible to hold conferences, exhibitions, fairs, seminars, and virtual meetings without the knowledge of those few languages.

On the other hand, a few languages are on the verge of extinction. This has led to the extinction of some valuable local practices, cultures, and traditions. This effect can be mitigated by educating people and creating committees, groups, associations, and tourism. The people speaking those languages remain separated from the outside world. They grow at a much slower pace than others.

I believe that we need a strong command of global languages. Not only that, we also need also some focus on conserving and propagating local languages, cultures, and traditions. The well known and well spoken languages were once less spoken. People can only spread the language and make it global.

Band 7 IELTS Essay

Some languages are increasingly spoken in different countries due to growing educational institutions and economic relations. It gained impetus in the past through colonial rulers, trade, business, and the propagation of religion.

Now it is very rapid due to electronic media, cinema, and science and technology. Globalization has encouraged a few languages to grow very fast, and many to become extinct. There is no doubt that a few spoken languages have brought people closer. The majority of books and literature are available in libraries and on the internet in the major spoken languages of the world. This has made possible the easy propagation of cultures. traditions, and religious practices in different parts of the world. The interexchange of cultures and traditions has become possible because the majority of the people in the world are speaking popular languages. Language was a barrier in the past. Now, there is no such big hurdle. With rapid progress in information and technology, the popularity of a few languages has become natural. It is very easy to create different programs and mobile applications in a few languages, rather than thousands of languages. This has led to fast business communication through email, WhatsApp, chatting, the internet, and online payments. The utility of computers, laptops, and mobile phones has become easier and more advantageous due to a few popular languages. In the same direction, the majority of universities and educational institutions are improving proficiency in these languages. As the growth of a few languages is increasing, there is a fast decline in the popularity of thousands of minor languages across the world. One more interesting thing is that, with the advancement in communication technology, cultures and traditions in association with minor ethnic groups are being brought into focus. A number of regional, national, and international organizations are also contributing a lot to give life to the hidden languages along with cultures and traditions. We can conclude that the concept of globalization has not only popularized a few languages, but also contributed to the rejuvenation of a number of minor languages, cultures, and traditions. A few spoken languages have not killed other languages but made it possible to become famous in unfamiliar parts of the world also.

Band 6.5 IELTS Essay

Some languages are increasingly spoken due to their use in computers, information technology, international trade, and scientific institutions. Even in the past, a few languages had become famous due to the strong rulers and the extent of their dynasties.

At present, the global market has made it necessary for a few languages to be learned and spoken all over the world. The argument here is whether those few languages have killed other languages or helped in a parallel growth of the many minor languages. It has become easier to publish different folk stories, scientific findings, business information, and literature in a few popular languages, rather than in a thousand regional languages. Google Translate has made it further possible to make understand in other languages also. A few languages can carry information regarding cultures and traditions faster than many languages. As a few languages are becoming more popular, there has been rapid progress in the propagation and adaptability of different styles, fashions, and cultures in different parts of the world. Now language is not at all a barrier, but a facilitator to make understanding the world better. Scientists and technologists can create different computer programs and apps in a few languages only. The information and technology revolution has changed the mode and means of doing business and establishing relationships. Internet, email, WhatsApp, social networking sites, and online payments have become common. It has become easier even for kids to operate computers, laptops, and mobile phones due to learning and speaking a few popular languages. Besides these, a number of educational institutions and coaching centers are offering different courses to improve proficiency in different foreign languages. We can't deny the fact that due to the introduction of foreign languages native languages, cultures, and traditions are disappearing fast. But, the efforts made by a number of regional, national, and international organizations, give a new life to all these forms. We can conclude that globalization and a free-market economy have made a few languages famous. Information technology and electronic media have rejuvenated the otherwise extinct minor languages, cultures, and traditions into existence.
