Topic: Some employers want to be able to contact their staff at all times, even on holidays. Does this development have more advantages than disadvantages?

Band 7.5 IELTS Essay

Every company and employer wants their company to rank at the top. This needs a lot of work, commitment, and dedication from the employees. For this, there are few employers who call their employees on holidays and weekends also. This approach by employers often has more disadvantages rather than benefits. In this essay, we will discuss the advantages and disadvantages.

Due to this extra work pressure employees are not getting enough time for themselves. They are unable to spend time with their families. Holidays and weekends are the right of the employees. it is given so that they can relax and freshen up their mind after a week of hard work. Calling the employees to work on holidays can be considered interference with basic rights. The owners of the companies have only one motive and that is profit maximization. They often cross the barrier in doing so. They tend to poke their nose into the personal lives of their employees. The owners of the companies even try to contact their workers on holidays or the days the workers are on leave. I believe that holidays and casual leaves are very necessary, as they not only refresh the minds of people but also increase their productivity. Increasing trends of such incidents make the workers frustrated and suffer from exhaustion, sleepless nights, and various health problems. These incidents if happened frequently might affect the relationship between the employee and the employer which is required for the smooth running of the process. There are a few barriers that no one should cross in professional life. One of them is hampering the basic right of an employee. This does not increase the quality and quantity of work but rather decreases it resulting in a loss for a company.

On the other hand, there are some emergency services where employers have to contact their employees. For example, the doctors and nurses of a hospital, or employees of the fire brigade. These are understandable and do not happen frequently. So, in my opinion, there should be a fine line between contacting a worker during his holidays or not. Everyone has the right to get some personal space and have a personal life. Hampering will definitely create a negative impact on their professional life.

Band 7 IELTS Essay

As our modern world is moving quickly and fast, reputed companies are always on the move to improve their presence in the global market. The owners of the companies always tend to keep in touch with their workforce.

Nowadays, companies treat their employees as part of the family and always support their workers on good and bad days. These cordial relations have many benefits for the employees. They remain motivated towards their companies and always try to contribute to making the company grow in the world economy. As employers always try to contact their employees all the time, this approach may have both positive and negative impacts on the company. First and foremost, during an emergency, an employer can contact their employees for any solution. For example, a doctor or a nurse in a hospital is contacted for an emergency operation even in their hospitals. This will eventually increase the popularity of the hospital and its workforce. Moreover, this constant interaction and connection between employer and employees strengthen the relationship and motivate them to work hard for their respective companies. It is also the duty of the employer to reward their invaluable time and efforts to the company. Thus, it is beneficial to both the employer and the employees.

On the other hand, employers trying to have regular contact with their employees mainly during the holidays, or their leaves may have a negative impact on the company. Firstly, it is a breach of their privacy and personal space, if they are forced to work from their home even during their holidays. Secondly, the constant work pressure given by the employer will decrease the efficiency, mental stability, and health of the workers and ultimately will decrease the performance of the individual and the company will suffer. The employees are even unable to build happy and fruitful relations with their family members. Vacations and holidays not only help to get rid of boredom but also relieve all the stress from daily work. Consequently, it helps employees to increase focus on the work and it eventually benefits the companies.

Hence, I believe there should be a professional relationship between the employer and the employees. They must be given their personal space in order to get the best out of them.

Band 6.5 IELTS Essay

With the advent of technology, communication between employers and their workforce has increased. Some company owners want to be in constant touch with their employees all the time even on the holidays. The mode of contact includes telephonic conversation, video calling, or other means.

This constant interaction has both positive and negative impacts on the company. Firstly, there are some benefits of having such regular contact between employers and employees. They can ensure that the work is done in a systematic and timely manner. This would result in increasing the company's rating and also keeps the customers satisfied. Moreover, increasing connectivity may also lead to increasing the worker's efficiency thus resulting in increased productivity. Apart from work-related issues, regular connectivity can also ensure relatively easy communication with the employers and solutions from it regarding workers' families or health-related issues. Secondly, the employers through regular connections can track the work progress and workers' efficiency. Regular connection with the owners of the companies can also result into increase faith in the company. They feel highly secure in the work environment and can work without excess pressure, thus resulting in increased efficiency and productivity. Nevertheless, there are many disadvantages also due to regular connection with the employees. This regular approach can lead to a disbalance in the work-life of the staff. The employees may sometimes feel irritated. With constant calls from the boss and regular work pressure, one has to limit family time and thus, resulting in weakening personal relationships. In addition, due to excess workload, one has to reduce personal time for recreational activities like sports, and exercise which could result in health-related issues. Excess workload even on holidays, vacations may lead to burry of one's personal likings and hobbies. For example, a worker who is also a mountaineer who loves to visit and climbs mountains has to sacrifice his passion for the sake of his work. Such incidents could be very annoying for a person. Regular monitoring and poking the nose even during workers' vacations can lead to serious disbalance in work effectiveness and the worker may discontinue working for the reputed company. Thus, it will be hazardous for both the company and the worker.
