Topic: In some countries at secondary or high school, there may be two streams of study: academic or vocational. What are the advantages for students and society of putting students into two streams at the age of fifteen?

Band 7 IELTS Essay

Secondary and high school students in some countries have the option of taking academic and vocational training modules. A student's career will benefit from both educational paths. A student has the chance to work on their area of interest and hone their skills, which helps to develop assets in the form of human resources.

Students who select a field of study and work to learn more about it through the academic module enrich their knowledge of that field by learning about the theory behind it as well as the practical applications that go along with it. Those who choose to continue their research do so by receiving in-depth theoretical and practical training in that area. They then successfully apply their newly acquired knowledge whenever and wherever it is required. Researching a particular subject also aids in simultaneously boosting knowledge and skill. Students are given projects and group assignments to help them develop their work completion and independent learning skills as a way to broaden their knowledge through academic modules. When it comes to vocational training, it develops human resources that will be valuable in the future. Along with theoretical knowledge, the student will also be exposed to the practical aspects of a particular job. They will gain an understanding of the work required and the skills needed to succeed in the particular position from the job orientation.

For instance, under the guidance of professionals and knowledgeable teachers, engineering students are exposed to their practical field of work. Additionally, they are given the chance to participate in short-term internships, talk sessions, workshops, and seminars where they can learn about the working world and network with experts in the industry in which they plan to work. Vocational training, while a student is in secondary or high school, saves time in the additional training process after graduation because they receive the necessary training while they are still in school.

So, in order to advance a student's career, both academic and vocational training are crucial. Since students will be exposed to both theoretical knowledge and the job market from the very beginning of their education, they will be able to make informed decisions about their future.

Band 8 IELTS Essay

The job market in today’s society is highly competitive. Theoretical knowledge is not enough in a society where practical knowledge is equally given importance. The students of high school or secondary in some of the countries are given the opportunity to choose between academic and vocational education or learning both simultaneously. Society benefits hugely by keeping the students engaged in both academic as well as educational streams.

The high economic standard of the world forces students to get involved in academic or vocational streams. Students with academic training alone will secure small jobs as only 40% of the knowledge can be acquired through academic training. The advantage of it is that students can interact with scholars or subject experts on topics that can render knowledge as it is a full-time regular course. Academic training will make a student expert with all the knowledge that he/she will acquire through theory-based subjects. Theory-based knowledge is important to suggest solutions and strategies for the projects of multinational companies. Academic skills can be helpful if the student wishes to do graduation, post-graduation, or doctorate.

Vocational training involves practical knowledge of a subject matter. It includes technical skills that are job-oriented. Vocational training is a suitable option for students who aim to get a productive job after high school or in near future. The polished technical and work-related skills and knowledge, help the students secure a high-salaried job.

Thus, in many countries, it is highly supported to choose between academic and vocational training in order to build a career that is beneficial both for the individual as well as the society. The authority is subjected to providing efficient training to the students who choose either academic or vocational courses. The students have the right to get exposure to the different streams of education so that they can choose between the two based on the field of their interest. Where educational knowledge will enrich the student with theoretical knowledge, vocational training will give them practical training which is essential to survive in a job environment. Both are equally important for the student as well as the society.

With the gradual development in society, the need for a job is also increasing which is making the job market more competitive. The demand for qualified students has escalated over the past few years. The education system is being modified with a more elaborative curriculum which gave rise to two streams of education: academic and vocational training. Students of secondary and high school are allowed to choose between academic and vocational training. Both the streams of study have proved to have an immense effect on the individual and society at large.

The academic module prepares a student theoretically. Theoretical knowledge is important in case a student wants to proceed with higher education or make a career in the academic field. Conceptual knowledge is also essential when making any official decision. Though academic knowledge alone will not prepare the student for his/her desirable career, subsequent practical knowledge is equally important. The academic module also includes projects, assignments, seminars, etc which lessens the pressure on monotonous classwork and gives wider exposure to research works.

Vocational training is preparing the student with technical skills to perform efficiently in jobs. It aims towards making ideal human resources. Every student is an asset to the country if they are practically and theoretically trained in their interested fields. If a student has sufficient vocational training, then he/she can also expect a good job that is well-salaried. A student should know the work environment, the techniques, the process, and the field of job that he/she is involved in.

Every student is the future of the country. They have every right to choose their desired field of education as well as the streams of study, i.e, academic, and vocation. The authority should provide the students with whatever resources they need in order to contribute to the growing economy as responsible citizens.
