Band 8 IELTS Esaay
In some countries, smoking is not allowed in any public places at all, and also inside some businesses. Everyone agrees that this is the right thing to do because smoking in public and in workplaces can cause fires and harm to one's health as well as society's. In this essay, we will discuss the topic and provide relevant examples.
Smoking should not be permitted in certain workplaces, according to a strong argument. Allowing smoking in business and workplace means that smoking is being promoted. Big companies do not promoting a bad habbitr like smoking. Also, it can bring uncalled accidents to the business prenmices. For instance, an oil and natural gas company like Indian Oil Corporation must deal with smoking inside the premices as security breach. The likelihood of fire accidents increases in such locations. Therefore, the imposed ban is regarded as an appropriate strategy for preventing resource depletion and safeguarding workers' lives from such calamity.
In addition, it goes without saying that the general public's health would improve if smoking was outlawed in all public places across the nation. People may gradually become de-addicted if they break the rules because it becomes a legal issue. For instance, rather than incurring a significant fine, my uncle chose not to smoke in public places like train stations and bus stops. This naturally decreased the number of cigeterres he used to smoke since he stays outside the house for 12 hours. Naturally, the number of people who smoke passively will also decrease and the incidence of life-threatening diseases like asthma could both decrease. The country's future citizens will eventually become healthier, which will show in their efficiency, productivity, and enthusiasm, paving the way for its development.
In conclusion, banning smoking in all public places and businesses is unquestionably a wise course of action. This will make the work environments safer and encourages healthy lifestyles, which in turn contributes to the country's overall growth.
Band 7 IELTS Answer
Smoking is prohibited in most workplaces and public spaces by most businesses, organizations, and governments. In today's world, it is common practice to attribute smoking to the problem. However, despite the fact that I believe smoking can be harmful, I do not believe it should be completely prohibited. Additionally, I would argue that individuals must have the right to be able to choose whether or not to smoke.
It is a fact that smoking is injurious to health but I would like to discuss three benefits of smoking. First of all, many people find that smoking helps them relax. It even helps some people concentrate better. Smoking relieves stress and anxiety when someone is stressed about a debt or an exam. The majority of people enjoy smoking while having fun with friends. Second, cigarette taxes generate substantial revenue for global governments. Schools, hospitals, and public spaces like parks, gardens, sports fields, and footpaths can all benefit from the funds generated by taxes. Thirdly, the tobacco industry employs tens of thousands of people worldwide, particularly in less developed nations like the Philippines and Zimbabwe. These people wouldn't have jobs if they didn't smoke.
In spite of these benefits, smoking has numerous drawbacks as well. Smoking has initially been shown to be extremely harmful to one's health. Since a single cigarette contains over 4,000 chemicals, it contributes to a wide range of potentially fatal conditions like asthma, bronchitis, and lung cancer. A recent report from Britain says that 120,000 people die from smoking and 3,500 die in road accidents each year. Additionally, the large number of people who require hospital treatment for smoking-related issues results in a cost to governments of millions of dollars. Additionally, passive smoking is a major issue in today's society. According to recent studies, nonsmokers who spend extended periods of time surrounded by smokers run the risk of developing health issues. Children in the United Kingdom with smoker parents are three times more likely to start smoking themselves.
In a nutshell, I believe that without cigarettes, the world would be better. However, it should be up to each individual to decide whether or not to smoke. While smokers should be allowed to smoke anywhere, I would say that people shouldn't smoke in a room or place where there are other nonsmokers.
Band 6.5 IELTS Essay
Smokers are pretty much everywhere we go. The majority of businesses, closed environments, and even the government prohibit smoking in their premises. Despite my total opposition to smoking, it is clear that smokers have the right to smoke, so prohibiting smoking in all public places would be inappropriate and could shock society.
First and foremost, people who smoke cigarettes can unwind and prepare for upcoming work by relieving themselves of stress during the process. If smoking was outlawed in all public places, employees would be unable to unwind, which could result in anxiety or even worse mental health issues. Second, as fewer people smoke, a ban on smoking in all open areas could have an effect on the tobacco industry. Fewer people would want cigarettes, which could result in workers in this industry losing their jobs and causing "depression" in the economy. In addition, as the tobacco industry and the consumption of cigarettes contribute a significant amount of funding to the government, infrastructure and the public sector cannot be adequately maintained. The country's development will stall, ultimately causing harm to the community in addition to its health.
On the other hand, smoking cigarettes in public can make those around the smoker feel uneasy. Lot of research shows that passive smoking has a worse effect on those around the smoker than smoking oneself. Not to mention that smoking causes upper respiratory disease and cancer, both of which shorten a person's lifespan and lower their quality of life after death. Not only this, smoking effects the environment and cleaniness of the city. For instance, in Bangalore smoking in public places are banned. Most office and business buildings does not have smoking zones. However, people still smoke in balconies or garagre of the office. I have seen people hide in streets and smoke. Yes, the ban has reduced the ill effects of smoking but by a very less margin.
I believe it should be the people who should think of consequences. On the grounds of humanity, they should not smoke in public places and with non smokers around them. Until and unless smokers themselves realize this, no ban is going to help the country.
