Topic: Solar energy is becoming more and more popular as a source of household energy in many countries around the world. Why is this? What are the advantages and disadvantages of solar energy?

Band 8 IELTS Essay

It is needless to mention that solar energy in the modern era has shown competitiveness and has become a significant source of sustainable energy in the twenty-first century. Changes from conventional energy sources are the result of the adaptation of solar energy. The switchover is now more dependable as a result.

The reasons for this development, as well as a number of other advantages and drawbacks of this endeavor, are highlighted in the preceding paragraphs. The ongoing natural resource crisis, with which people are contending on a global scale, is the main driver of the adoption of solar energy. This has caused the prices of the same to significantly increase. Because solar energy is renewable, it has additional advantages.

It is first of all environmentally friendly due to the lack of greenhouse gas emissions. Solar panels are a smart investment because, secondly, the following maintenance costs are incredibly low. Although there are no restrictions on how solar energy can be used, it is still necessary to develop strategies or adopt new technologies to promote its use. However, using solar energy has a few limitations that are built-in, which are the main obstacles to it becoming a common fuel source. The cost of implementing this strategy is prohibitively expensive for many people, first and foremost. However, since this option is permanently dependent on sunlight, it presents a challenge in regions with irregular or limited sunshine.

In order to wrap up, I'd like to mention that solar energy is becoming more and more commonplace every day and will soon be a necessity for homes. Solar energy has a growing number of advantages. But there are some drawbacks as well that could pose serious difficulties for humanity.

Band 8.5 IELTS Essay

Several countries at a global scale have considered the usage of solar power for fulfilling their domestic needs. The reason behind this can be addressed as solar power being the most abundant renewable resource of energy. Though solar energy is eco-friendly and renewable in nature, it has a number of disadvantages.

The preceding essay will discuss and highlight these aspects. The major benefit that is put forth by solar energy is that it doesn’t lead to any kind of pollution or is the reason for global warming like fossil fuels. Moreover, natural resources, such as petroleum, are limited and can be exhausted, however, it is not the case for solar power. Globally there is research being conducted to extract alternative sources of energy from wind and water. First and foremost, the major benefit put forth by solar power is its inexhaustible nature. It can be expanded as the sun is the natural source of heat and isn’t a polluting element as it is not composed of combustion fuels. Therefore it is responsible for dealing with global warming. However, each and every beneficial thing has its own set of limitations. Thus, it is the same for solar energy as well which restricts its widespread usage. The major drawback of solar energy can be highlighted as the extraction of solar energy is highly expensive and is not affordable by all individuals. Moreover, the solar panels that are used occupy an increased amount of space and hence individuals are reluctant to use them. In addition to that, another major disadvantage that can be highlighted is the dependence of solar panels upon huge amounts of solar energy to get charged. Therefore, it makes it less reliable as the only source of energy. It might come out as plenty of challenges in a few parts of the world during the winter. To summarise, solar is becoming increasingly popular as a source of energy due to its abundance, cleanliness, and environmental friendliness. It does, however, have significant drawbacks that make it unsuitable for general usage.

Band 7 IELTS Essay

Solar power as a source of energy is being increasingly adopted by global nations at an increased pace. People globally are using it as a source of energy for conducting power oriented activities within their households. This change and adaptation can be accredited to the eradication of the use of fossil fuels as a source of energy due to increased pollution and global warming.

The essay discusses this aspect in detail. Solar energy is regarded as a renewable and cleaner source of energy and is further safe to use. Unlike fossil fuels, coal, and oil, which are limited in supply and cannot be renewed once consumed, the raw material for solar energy is the sun's rays, which are abundant on Earth. Furthermore, unlike coal or oil, which emit hazardous gases into the environment, solar electricity does not emit any harmful gases. Nuclear power is also preferable to solar energy. This is because it is less dangerous to use than nuclear reactors, which may be dangerous if something goes wrong with them. Solar energy, on the other hand, is still in its infancy. To make technology accessible to everyone, it must improve. The initial installation costs are now relatively high, thus individuals are hesitant to switch to solar energy. As a result, the government can step in and give some type of subsidy to encourage people to adopt solar power to get things started. Another downside of solar is that it can only be used in tropical areas. Solar electricity is difficult to harvest in the temperate zone. Another downside is that the tropics receive a lot of rain, and you can't create much energy from the sun while it's cloudy. To summarise, solar energy offers several advantages over fossil fuels and nuclear energy, including being environmentally friendly, limitless, and clean/safe. The present drawback of solar energy is the first teething problem, which may be readily remedied. As a result, its advantages outnumber its disadvantages.
