Social Networking Websites - IELTS Speaking Sample

The target of the IELTS speaking task is engaging in general conversation with the test-taker that includes IELTS speaking topics like home, education, work, family, academics, and more. Question 1. Are you a social person?

Answer: I would have to say yes. I am absolutely ecstatic when it comes to connecting with people. While I do need my alone time, I get energized when spending time around others rather than just being on my own. I am what you’d call an extrovert.

Question 2. Do you use social networking sites?

Answer: Yes. A large chunk of my day is spent browsing social media. There are a myriad of accounts across the many different SNS platforms that just make me enraptured like shopping accounts, slime making, book recommendations and so much more.

Question 3. What kind of people do you like to be friends with on those websites?

Answer: There are different categories. First of all, I stay connected with friends and family. Even if we live apart by using SNS we can get a glimpse into others lives. I also made friends with people I haven’t met in real life and it’s because of shared hobbies and interests. I have online friends with whom I can discuss my favorite books and characters.

Question 4. Do you like to use Facebook?

Answer: Yes, very much. Facebook helps me stay in touch with friends from childhood, school, college, and even others I’ve met along the way. It's very enthralling as not only can we connect with kith and kin but also do shopping, get the latest news and many other things.

Question 5. How did you first find out about Facebook?

Answer: When I was in school almost everyone there, classmates, seniors and juniors had a Facebook account. They used to talk about playing all kinds of games and chatting. It was unfamiliar territory so I decided to get an account to understand what the rave was all about.

Question 6. Will you use these sites more in the future?

Answer: Yes, at this time and age you can’t have social media accounts. Though I would like to limit the amount of time I spend on these apps. While it's very engaging it's also addictive. I tend to lose focus on other things that I need to do. So a more restricted use of SNS would be apt.

Question 7. Which social media websites do you use?

Answer: I have accounts on many social media sites like Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, etc. I tend to mostly be on Twitter as I prefer its format. The trending pages give a rough idea of what’s happening and it’s information-rich. Instagram is a close second and very bewitching with its video and reels.

Question 8. What kind of information about yourself have you put on social media?

Answer: I have put out some basic details about myself such as name, places of education including school and college, city, etc. I haven’t divulged any sensitive information about myself like my address or place of work or at least I believe I haven’t. My posts also are more abstract and not pinpointing any specific location.

Question 9. Is there anything you don't like about social media?

Answer: The one thing I’m not fond of is the fact that you can’t restrict who views your account. While it's possible to adjust the security, certain details like username and profile picture will remain visible. You can’t be invisible on social media unless you don’t make an account.

Question 10. Do you think people will use social media more or less in the future?

Answer: I believe it will increase as social media users are on the rise. As the internet is being available to more it's only inevitable that more people will be on social media. Moreover, digital marketing is the new fad so the commerce sector will encourage the use of social media.
