Topic: Many people believe that social networking sites have a huge negative impact on both individuals and society. To what extent do you agree?

Model Answer 1:

Social media has become an integral part of our lives. With advancing technologies social networking sites have become a paramount factor in connecting people from across the globe. Some people are of the opinion that social networking sites have a negative impact on society. I believe it is true to some extent but not entirely. Any technology evolution has some pros and cons and inadvertent;y social media also has its perils. Apart from social media sites connecting people across the globe, it helps people to widen their circle based on their interests and hobbies. A piece of information shared on social media sites spreads like wildfire. Information regarding any crime, injustice or illegal activities come to surface. Social media sites allow people to share their opinion on the matter and hold substantial discussions for the same. We must also not forget Linkedin, the biggest online job portal has helped millions of people to get jobs and connect with recruiters from all around the world. During COVID, Linkedin was a savior to many employees that were laid off during the crises. I wouldn't also deny the cons that social networking sites hold. Overuse of such sites, evades people from spending time with families, indulgence in criminal activities and not to forget the bubble of superficial world that is created by people. I believe if we can effectively utilize the social networking sites they definitely are a boon for the masses.

The evolution of technology has caused many changes today, which were otherwise not possible in the past. There were times when people communicated with each other via letters, which would take days to reach the recipient. Today with technological advancement we can connect with people from all over the world. Moreover, we can also apply for a job overseas. A fraction of people believe that social networking sites have a negative impact on both individuals and society. However I do not agree with this.

I believe social networking sites provide an opportunity for an individual to expand their network. Small businesses can use these sites to market their brand and gain an audience. News pieces circulate on these networking sites like wildfire. People can share their opinions and hold discussions at the networking sites. A person living in a remote area of the world can connect with his/her family. During COVID networking sites played a huge role to connect with their near or distant families. It helped people overcome isolation during the times. Further, social media networking sites allow people to connect with their long lost hobbies and interests. Owing to the various advantages, I do not agree that social networking sites have a negative impact on individuals or the society. Besides, the sites are helping us come closer. An effective utilization of these sites is what is required to counter the perils that any technological advancement might entail.

Facebook, instagram, linkedin etc., are all some major social networking sites that are used by people nowadays. Connectivity is an integral part of our lives and we cannot sustain in society without it. For example Facebook, has played a major role in connecting people across the globe. A person living in a remote corner of the world can easily connect with her/his family members or friends. I personally have been able to connect with some of my long-lost friends/families via facebook. Connectivity is also paramount in expanding one’s network, helpful for business to gain an audience, address their issues and account in the feedback. Not to forget the various groups that are created on facebook addressing people’s interests or hobbies. This again helps individuals to widen their circle. Twitter is another platform for people to share their opinions, feedback or even indulge in important discussions. Linkedin is another good example of a social networking site that is helping millions of people to look for jobs. In Fact people who were unemployed due to unavoidable circumstances were able to get a job via linkedin.Talking about some disadvantages of networking sites, majorly due to overuse of these sites include addiction to these sites, indulgence in morally unethical activities, causing irritability and behavioral changes in youngers and a gradual decrease in time spent with the family. All these are some cardinal cons of over use of these networking sites, but can be mitigated with the proper utilization of such sites.
