Band 7 IELTS Essay

Every person existing on the earth from age 10 to old age is active on social media. While social media is increasingly becoming popular among all age groups, people sharing their personal information online are considered at risk. Every generation relies on social media websites to recollect the trends and update the brain with the latest news. However, using the internet has a certain downside that threatens the user’s privacy. In my opinion, the internet has various advantages but its disadvantages are outweighed, and below are some examples to support my argument.

At the outset, there are people that frequently or regularly post their personal information on social media websites and attract cyber crimes. Sharing personal information such as their current locations can lead to security issues including their opponents strategizing to harm them. Initially, the recent data states an increase in the number of attacks on women in various countries. This is because of their constant movements shared publicly on internet websites. It is important to understand the risks coming with the attention gained through social media. Eventually, not sharing private information online can help reduce the attacks on people. Hence, many people will oppose the excessive use of social media and update every movement to protect privacy.

Although, the internet has various advantages that cannot be neglected like people getting to connect with their family and friends living overseas. Nowadays, people utilize social media as a networking platform to connect with other users. Social media websites such as Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram are serving to connect family and friends living in different states or even countries. Not only for personal connections but social media like LinkedIn is also used to connect on a professional level and find jobs. Multiple job vacancies are posted on such websites and subscribed people get benefits from the information.

To conclude, both advantages and disadvantages are associated with social media utilization. In my opinion, it can only be beneficial when used within limits and sharing minimum personal information.

Band 7.5 IELTS Essay

Social media is becoming increasingly popular among all age groups. Even an opine 10 year old is using social media websites to the fullest by sharing their daily routine publicly by just sitting at home most of the time. Initially, there are people with no doubt who use the internet for the latest updates on news and trends. However, a huge number of the population is using social media in a way that violates their privacy and security. In my opinion, social media websites have both pros and cons. But the cons outweigh the pros at some points and the following arguments are used to support my opinion.

Originally, there are various social media websites that connect users worldwide. People get to connect and be in contact with their friends and family living on another side of the world and also make new connections through the platform. Social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter also allow people to share their opinions with everyone. They can reach the masses through their profiles and connections. Twitter is a well-known platform where people present their thoughts and permit others to give their counter viewpoints. Social media has a faster connecting platform and provides instant access to information.

However, on the other hand, people are spending numerous amounts of time on social media platforms. In order to communicate virtually, users are losing the ability to have an emotional connection with people around them. Recent studies convey the data on the increased number of social media users with reduced face-to-face communication skills. The occurrence of inauthentic expression of feelings, and laziness leading to obesity, hypertension, and diabetes. While social media features seem exciting and engaging, it has long-term physical and mental harm.

To conclude, both advantages and disadvantages are associated with social media utilization. In my opinion, it can only be beneficial when used within limits and sharing minimum personal information.

Band 8 IELTS Essay

Social media has become popular in recent years among all age groups. While people are using social media platforms extensively to update their every movement, it has been also violating their security and privacy. On the other hand, a huge population is dependent on the internet for the latest trends and news. In my opinion, increased social media utilization has certain disadvantages. But can be outweighed by various advantages and I will support an argument with examples.

To begin with, a recent survey indicates that social media users spend more time on the internet than required. Nevertheless, such websites like Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, and Instagram are exciting and interactive; they engage people for longer than expected. These connective platforms allow people to present their thoughts and permit others to have counter viewpoints as well. However, doing so comes with various long-term harms. This includes the inability of having face-to-face communication, experiencing the inauthentic expression of feelings, and laziness. Since excessive use of social media causes both mental and physical harm, disorders like diabetes, hypertension, and obesity are followed.

On the other hand, social media websites have become a major means of communication and interaction. As it connects family and friends living overseas, social media also allows people to ask for favors. It enables people to grab job opportunities from unknown professional connections. LinkedIn is such a connecting platform that offers job vacancies and professional connections to people who subscribe. There are many newspapers publishing such vacancies on a daily basis. Eventually, it takes much more time to reach out to the public in comparison to the information published on the internet. Hence, social media websites are becoming beneficiary for the current generation by circulating the fastest and most reliable information.

To conclude, both advantages and disadvantages are associated with social media utilization. In my opinion, using social media brings faster connectivity and easier access to information but not the physical and mental harm when used with limits.
