Social Media Speaking Part 1

Social Media Speaking Part 1 is a topic in the IELTS speaking task. In the model answers of Social Media Speaking Part 1 four key IELTS questions have been answered tha address and sum up the candidates perspective on patience.

Topic: Social Media

Question 1: Which Social media website do you use?

Answer: Despite using numerous social networking platforms, I solely utilise SnapChat and LinkedIn right now. I use Snapchat to communicate with my friends and family. While LinkedIn keeps me informed about job opportunities. While linkedIn keeps me updated on opportunities, recent expertise that are in demand, and employment trends, Snapchat provides me with interesting and amusing features. Additionally, Snapchat makes it easier for us to record special occasions. Keeping up with greater career alternatives is made easier using LinkedIn. Sharing content, images, and stories between users on Instagram and Snapchat is very common.

Vocabulary:

  • Networking: interaction with others for the purpose of knowledge sharing and forming social or professional connections.
  • Solely: having nothing to do with anyone or anything else.
  • Utilise: use in a sensible and efficient manner.
  • Amusing: something that is entertaining or humourous

Question 2: How much time do you spend on social media websites?

Answer: I don't necessarily spend a lot of time on social media because I don't use it frequently. I primarily use Snapchat. Despite the fact that they're a useful means of communication. I am often affected by the toxicity, bullying, and nasty attitudes that individuals have toward one another. While social media is a fantastic tool for staying in touch, it has recently developed into a stage for manufactured reality. As a result of everyone's intense efforts to follow the latest trends, their true selves are becoming lost on this platform.

Vocabulary:

  • Primarily: largely; mainly; for the most part.
  • Toxicity: being extremely hurtful or unpleasant in a continuous or sneaky manner
  • Trends: a general path that something is following when evolving or changing
  • Nasty: dreadful or awful
  • Manufactured: produced or fabricated

Question 3: What kind of information about yourself have you put on social media?

Answer: I used to publish photos, videos, and a lot more when I was active on social media in the past. Presently, I don't post frequently, and when I do, it's typically with essential information pertaining to studies or other matters. In my opinion, privacy is something that is increasingly lost the more you post. It's critical that people realise not everything should be displayed publicly. I think it's important to keep your business and personal affairs private. I therefore reserve posting until when I truly believe it is vital.

  • Pertaining: be in force or exist in a particular location or at a certain time.
  • Privacy: it is a state of being free from public attention
  • Reserve: it is to hold back, or to retain

Question 4: Is there anything you don’t like about social media?

Answer: One of the things I dislike about social media is the toxicity it reflects, as well as the mental tiredness it causes. Recently, there has been a lot of competition, especially on social media. People are comparing themselves to one another and believing the fake reality they perceive. In addition, it encourages a distorted view of one's own appearance among the populace. Observing how toned and fit everyone appears to be on social media leaves many individuals feeling anxious about their appearance and leads to self-hatred. Additionally, it wastes time and, at the very least, interferes with our purchasing habits. Many people struggle with anxiety, negative body image, and the need to constantly improve. More or less, we are aware that having these problems is not good for one's mental and physical health. It has an impact on our way of life and our routines.

Vocabulary:

  • Anxious: experiencing or displaying anxiety, apprehension, or disquiet towards something whose outcome is uncertain.
  • Perceive: become cognizant or aware of; come to realise or comprehend.
